Jakarta 2022 and beyond

.
It looks like another Singapore.

What is the future of Jakarta once capital is shifted from it? Will it face neglect and decline?

Of course not inshaAllah, only foreign medias who said so.

Jakarta to Indonesia is like New York to USA, and new capital city in Kalimantan is like Washington to USA.

Bussiness center is still in Jakarta. The development is still going on in Jakarta, particularly for MRT and LRT public transportation system.

What is central gov is doing is to build water source for Jakarta pipe water system. This pipe water system is the solution for Jakarta problem, similar thing has been done in Tokyo

Karian Dam is near completion. The location is in Banten province, near Jakarta

Water treatment facility is also near completion for Indonesia biggest dam and it will be for Jakarta pipe water system.

There are 13 rivers going through Jakarta and Gov wants it to become another source of Jakarta pipe water system. Cleaning up and normalization going on with the main effort is for the biggest river first.

But still Jakarta will decline in terms of importance, population, govt. spending etc. It is now getting undivided attention from the govt. once capital shift, govt.'s attention will be split. They will divert a lot of projects to new capital which otherwise would have gone of Jakarta. The decline and neglect will not be visible soon after the capital shift. It will be a long, gradual process taking many decades. When ruling elite abandon a place, it take away a lot of things with it. Gradually all the big business headquarters will shift so that they can remain close with the ruling class, embassies will shift etc. Employment opportunity will decline in Jakarta and rise in new capital when business elites shift to new capital. Common people will have respond with this change by migrating in the new capital, accelerating the shifting process.

Do you personally support this move?

Man, Indonesia economy is growing AlhamduliLLAH, gov spending is also in growing trend. New York is growing, depite USA is building Washington. Kuala Lumpur is still growing despite they are building Putra Jaya

Indonesia must develop all main Islands, Kalimantan has huge hidro power potency beside it is our biggest Island with lowest density rate, it can be our next growth driver. Currently we are building the largest green industry region in Kalimantan that will be powered by Hidro Power.

Yep, I support the development of new city.

Capital should be a place accessible to maximum number of population, for which Jakarta is a perfect place, as it is within the island majority of Indonesians live. It seems like Indonesian govt. is isolating from the population and secluding itself in the middle of jungle. Washington and Putra Jaya example are not suitable for Indonesia's case. In those cases, capital is still at the heart of the population center. Washington is only a few hundred km away from New York and at the heart of populous Eastern coast of US. Putra Jaya is only 30 km away from Kuala Lumpur and still at the middle of population center in Malaysia.

But in Indonesia's case, capital will be in the middle of jungle of a sparsely populated island, 1400 km away from Java island which is home to 56 percent of Indonesians. It will also be very distant from Sumatra, the second most populated island. So, isolation between govt. and people will be in epic proportion. The only example which come close to this Indonesian experiment is Myanmar. The Myanmar Junta govt. also moved capital in the middle of nowhere, created a ghost town far from the reach of Burmese population. They did it to save itself from the popular discontent uprising toppling the junta. There is a possibility that, in the Kalimantan jungle city, Indonesian govt. will be increasingly authoritarian.

The main reason of why we should build new Capital in Kalimantan is to make Indonesia become Indonesian centric rather than Java centric. The main idea behind it is to spread economic development to whole Indonesia and improve unity among Indonesian.

Kalimantan as biggest Island and with lowest density population but with huge hidro power potency. Kalimantan potency is linked with future global economic trend that tend to favor green economy development. There green electricity power is in abundance.

Making the central government inside Kalimantan will make the Island get more attention and protection. We are also going to add another 50.000 armed force personnel in the Island and build sophisticated air defence there.

With internet era, I think the connection problem is not really a worrying thing. Indonesia hold election every 5 years, disconnected government will get punished there. Our system is democracy, not authoritarian.

Indonesia Breaks Ground on Green Industrial Park Set to be World's Largest

Jakarta. Indonesia has kicked off the construction of what will be the world’s largest green industrial park in Bulungan, North Kalimantan.

“We hope that this will become the largest green industrial park in the world. Not North Kalimantan, not Indonesia, but the world,” President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo said during the groundbreaking event on Tuesday, as broadcasted on Youtube by the Presidential Secretariat.

The industrial park currently spans 16,400 hectares and is targeted to expand to 30,000 hectares. Products coming from this industrial estate include solar panels, semiconductors, green aluminum, petrochemicals for textiles, among others.

“This is a major collaboration between Indonesia and investors from Indonesia, China to the United Arab Emirates. Everyone will join,” Jokowi said.

In his remarks, the president urged that any permit must be ready in a matter of hours, “to show that we are serious about developing this area. I don’t want to hear any more of the permit being [issued] late or incomplete.”

The green industrial park will become a major impetus for job creation. Its construction alone will require at least 100,000 workers. Once it operates, the industrial park —including its derivatives— can absorb more than 200,000 workers, according to Jokowi.

The industrial park would help pave way for Indonesia's goal of becoming more than just a raw material exporter, the president added.

For years, Indonesia's exports have always focused on raw materials. It is now time that Indonesia exports semi-finished or finished goods to bring more added value to the country. According to Jokowi, the green industrial park in North Kalimantan will mostly produce finished products.

"This is really a leap in Indonesia's economic transformation and it starts from here," Jokowi said.

496 Years of Establishment, What is the Current DKI Jakarta Human Development Index?

DEMOGRAPHICS

DKI Jakarta turns 496 years old today, Thursday (22/6/2023).

The capital of this country has been transformed over time. It was originally just a small port, becoming the center of international trade, until it became a metropolitan.

As a city that is adaptive to the times, what is the quality of human life today?

The Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) DKI Jakarta compiles the Human Development Index (HDI) scores of its citizens.

There are at least six districts/cities in Jakarta that have measured their quality of life through HDI. The highest is East Jakarta, with an HDI score of 85.21 points on a scale of 0-100 in 2022. This achievement increased from 2021 which was 82.97 points.

Second, Central Jakarta recorded 83.45 points in 2022, up from 81.56 points the previous year.
Third, West Jakarta amounted to 82.11 points in 2022, up also from the previous year of 81.76 points.

Thousand Islands followed in fourth position, with a score of 81.65 points in 2022, an increase from the previous year of 72.10 points.

There is only one administrative city that has decreased its achievements, namely South Jakarta. In 2022, South Jakarta scored 72.79 points. In fact, in 2021 the score was 84.90 points.
The decline in South Jakarta's HDI score also made DKI Jakarta's average score collapse. In 2022, DKI Jakarta's average HDI score was 80.81 points, decreasing from 2021 which was 81.11 points.

In general, BPS said HDI shows the population's access to development results in obtaining income, health, education, and so on.

This is an important indicator to measure success in efforts to build the quality of human life. HDI can also determine the rank or level of development of a region or country.

"For Indonesia, HDI is strategic data because apart from being a measure of government performance, HDI is also used as one of the allocators for determining the General Allocation Fund (DAU)," BPS wrote on its official website.

HDI was introduced by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in 1990 and is published regularly in the annual Human Development Report (HDR).
HDI is formed by three basic dimensions, namely longevity and healthy life, knowledge, and decent living standards.
