A notorious Indian thug has attracted thousands of followers on Facebook by posting sickening videos of himself savagely beating inmates in jail.

Sukha Kahlon is currently being held in Punjab's Kapurthala jail as he faces 40 criminal cases including murder, attempted murder, banditry, robbery, snatching and other offences in three other states.

Prison officials now face scrutiny after he uploaded two videos on his Facebook fan page, titled 'Sukha kahlon sharp shooter'.

A violent video clip of him brutally beating up a fellow prisoner named Jimmy (titled 'Jimmy alias Pita Kaand') inside the Kapurthala jail was uploaded on September 26.

The victim is seen begging for mercy but is ordered to abuse himself in Punjabi.

Another video titled 'Rocky Kaand' uploaded three days before was recorded outside the jail and shows another victim being beaten with a stick.

Sukha has three Facebook accounts and he regularly updates his fan page from the jail. He even updated the on Tuesday by changing the profile photo at around 5pm.

The fan page, created earlier this year, has over 16,283 followers and is full of violent comments and photos glorifying gun culture.

Sukha's Facebook page is another damning indictment of Punjab jails, where inmates have easy access to mobile phones and drugs.

The Punjab jail officials allegedly work with the inmates and supply drugs, mobile phones and other prohibited items to them. He was moved to another jail on Saturday and prison authorities refute the claims about colluding with prisoners.

'This under-trial (defendant) has been shifted to Nabha jail now after he misbehaved with the jail officials. We are trying to find out how the videos were uploaded,' R.K. Meena, ADGP Prisons said.

Sukha is not the only net savvy prisoner. According to sources there are dozens of other criminals housed in Kapurthala and other jails who frequently use social media. There were reports in July that Punjab prisoners are using social media.

Sukha's Facebook fan page has echoed the allegations of Punjab's former director general of police Shashi Kant, who said the jail inmates would not be able to use drugs and mobile phones without the help of jail officials.
