Italians are a benchmark as far as haraami pan goes in Europe. The charges seem to be bogus as there is no pattern, Indians don't have a drug smuggling history that far ashore.

Yes it is, but I suggested it only because our courts wont' be able to pronounce the judgement in time. It would take ages and thats not just done. A quicker dispensation of judgement is what is required or else it would be a sore sight between the bilateral relations of the two nations.

Prosecute & imprison them, if they are found to be drug trafficking. Let them stay where they are.. don't send 'em back on a swap deal with those who are charged with murder!

true.. it's a pity that in India we are allowed to make distinction between local prisoner & foreign prisoner, while one rots in rotten jail... other one is allowed to serve his detention in a 5 star facility.. Fortunately our courts do not make that distinction. Just goes to show that there is desperate need to reform Indian judicial system.

Anyway, if Indians court could only speed up the trials. Otherwise there is no need to keep on dragging the case for years and years. Hang them if they could pronounce the judgement quickly but if not then no need to spend the public money on such things.

Italy is not Arab or taleban. If these guys did carry so much ganja they must be rich and can afford a good lawyer. Who can save their ***. And remember in Italy jails are to make them fit in society. So conditions are much better. Indian jail mein to Chauha Bhi peet ke dard se ya food poisoning se mar jai. So for those two sailor thakur to giyo!

It cannot be,,,courts cannot be manipulated.Once supreme court rules,u got to follow.
But best will be italian govt approaching the dead fishermen families,,compensating them and asking them to take the case back i guess.

Criminal cases can't be taken back. Once SC (or any other court, with no one appealing) delivers the verdict, govt can pardon the convicts (if convicted).

the thing is those two sailors are not in Indian jails but in guest houses, had they been there I wouldn't have raised hue n cry about it.

T think the political motivation was because of the fact that the Sonia Gandhi is Italian by descendant and ruling prty must not have wanted to create controversy by giving any benefits to the Italians

Meanwhile, EU has said that the issue had the potential to impact the overall European Union-India relations and has also a bearing on the global fight against piracy "to which the EU is strongly committed''.

"The decision to deny the plea of Massimiliano Latorre for an extension of his stay in Italy for medical treatment and to refuse Salvatore Girone permission to spend the Christmas period at home is disappointing, as a long awaited mutually agreed solution has not yet proved possible," said Federica Mogherini, who is the new foreign policy chief of EU.

Those carrier don't have defence they will be mere fishing boats. By the time indian carrier will reach indian economy will be so down there might not be enough cents to get fuel for them ac.
