ROME (Reuters) - Italy’s Culture ministry on Wednesday barred the construction of a McDonald’s fast-food restaurant next to the ancient Baths of Caracalla in Rome, with Mayor Virginia Raggi saying “the wonders of Rome must be protected”.

Culture Minister Alberto Bonisoli announced his decision in a Facebook post after the municipal administration loudly protested against the notion of serving burgers in the archaeological zone that hosts the 3rd century A.D. baths.

“”We go forward with the culture minister to stop fast food construction in the archaeological area of the Baths of Caracalla. The wonders of Rome must be protected, Raggi wrote on Twitter after Bonisoli’s announcement.

McDonald’s did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

McDonald’s has more than 40 outlets in the Italian capital, some of them in the vicinity of landmarks such as the Piazza Navona, Piazza di Spagna (Spanish Steps) and the Vatican, but not hitherto in the midst of its revered ancient quarter.

In 1986, intellectuals and television personalities fought, ultimately in vain, against the opening of the first McDonald’s in the Piazza di Spagna, calling it an offense to Italy’s traditional food culture.

In the case of the Baths of Caracalla, Italian media said the McDonald’s outlet was expected to cover 800 square meters (8,611 square feet), in an area where new construction must meet strict criteria to reflect historical tradition.

The former garden center that would have hosted the new McDonald’s is located between the baths and the ancient Aurelian walls, a few hundred meters (yards) away from the Coliseum and the Circus Maximus.

According to website statista.com, Italy last year had the fourth highest number of McDonald’s restaurants in the European Union with 578, behind only Germany, France and Britain.

McDonalds serve only as public latrines for the tourists in the area. That is what McDonalds is, one big toilet.

This Is What A McDonald's Hamburger Looks Like After 14 Years

A Utah man who claims he has saved a McDonald's hamburger since 1999 has gone public with his at-home experiment.

The sandwich looks nearly identical to when David Whipple bought it. He went on the television show "The Doctors" to talk about his experience.

Whipple initially decided he was going to save the burger for two weeks to show his friends.

Then, he totally forgot about it.

Two years later, he found it in the coat pocket, along with the original receipt. Despite two years spent in a closet, the sandwich showed no signs of rotting or mold.

He decided to keep the burger to see how long it took to disintegrate.

But more than a decade later, the sandwich looks exactly the same. Only the pickle has disappeared:

Whipple told "The Doctors" that he uses the burger to encourage his grandchildren to eat healthy.

"It's great for my grandkids to see. To see what happens with fast food," he said.

Why McDonald's Got Rid Of Artificial Additives In Its Burgers

McDonald’s announced it is removing all artificial additives in its seven classic burgers. This means they will no longer have any artificial flavors, artificial preservatives or added colors from artificial sources. The company is changing the beef patties, buns, cheese and Big Mac Special Sauce to make them healthier.

The buns will no longer have the artificial preservative calcium propionate. In general, calcium propionate helps prevent mold growth on bread and is considered antifungal. McDonald’s may be getting rid of it because previous research found that this preservative could negatively affect children’s behavior. The study, published in the Journal of Pediatrics and Child Health, showed that calcium propionate might cause “irritability, restlessness, inattention and sleep disturbance in some children.” In addition, removing the preservative could reverse these behavioral problems.

The Big Mac Special Sauce is losing several preservatives: potassium sorbate, sodium benzoate and calcium disodium EDTA. Potassium sorbate is made from sorbic acid and potassium hydroxide, and it also inhibits mold growth. The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) considers 3 mg of potassium sorbate per kg of body weight safe per day. However, there are questions about this chemical causing developmental and reproductive problems.

Sodium benzoate can prevent the growth of fungi and bacteria on foods. Nevertheless, when sodium benzoate combines with ascorbic acid (vitamin C), it can create benzene, which can cause cancer.

In a way the Cultural Ministry is right. There should not be a Drive Through McDonald's next to thousands of years old buildings...

These buildings must be isolated and protected...

.
Good, every country must ban murican fast food chain mcdonalds and their unhealthy gmo foods full of toxic chemicals.
