If Peshawar tragedy December 16, 2016 does not unite Pakistan against terrorism, extremism, political opportunism and anti-Pakistan media manipulation, nothing ever will. This was a gory incident in which more than a hundred school children, mostly those of soldiers fighting against the enemy, were butchered. The reaction in the civilized world was natural which was shocked and jolted. Pakistan’s archrival, India too showed as if it was saddened, totally oblivious of its establishment’s hand in this incident. And why not? This was an incident of its own kind never having taken place in the region.

The so-called Ummah was, however, conspicuous with its criminal silence as if it was business as usual for them. And the reaction to this incident is equally unique, and to some extent weird if we look at how Pakistan’s political class, politico-religious class and typical mullahs have responded to this incident.

The sum-total of reaction shown by politicos is simple; it is army’s war; let them fight it and please leave us and our families alone to enjoy the fruits of power. The fear of the terrorists has forced the political rulers to abdicate the real power in favor of the armed forces. The power to loot and plunder has, however, been retained. This is why people make massive investments to come into power.

If you look at the official pictures of the Prime Minister in the past week, fear is writ large on his face.

Reaction of religious and political mullahs is largely measured. They have tried not to hurt the feelings of an overwhelming majority of people who were angered by the incident. These mullahs, at the same time, have tried not to be on the wrong side of Taliban terrorists. There is one exception, however. It is Mullah Abdul Aziz aka Mullah Burqa who established a terrorist sanctuary right in the heart of the capital. The media generally perceived to be anti-Pakistan has mellowed down a little but they have intensified veiled criticism of the armed forces.

The people at large have expressed their decision in no uncertain terms; It is our war and we are behind our armed forces like a solid rock.

It is time the national unity is put to some constructive use before the foreign-funded media and opportunist politicians drive some wedge between people and the armed forces.

The people's support cannot be taken for granted any longer. The extremists have worked hard over decades to sway a majority of the people to be sympathetic to their point of view rather than the Army's.

or perhaphs the other way round

Our Islamo-fascist mentality has allowed for decades to sway our support towards Taliban extremists.

I believe that Pakistan has played its card too much with Muslim Brotherhood concept...The narrative needs revision...You need a better or another narrative for Pakistan apart from custodian of Muslims only...You need a new self identification of Pakistan which is more unique to your self and more identifiable to your aspirations and can easily separate yourself from the other nations as well as Islamic nations too..

Our Islamo-fascist mentality has allowed for decades to sway our support towards Taliban extremists.

This mentality persisting for decades lends a large amount of inertia to the associated policies, which is rather unfortunate, despite claims to the contrary.

On philosophical level, and for long long long I mean very long term revival, what you say is correct.

However most of us are martial people.

We need a clear order from the top and we all will marching to the new tunes.

Call us gullible, call us non-philosophical, or whatever.

This is our characteristic, that we need someone with clear headed strategy at the top, and we all will fix ourselves in no time.

We make good subjects, and horrible citizens. Yes.

Fauji...do not take me wrong...I am not trying to castigate any one..Because being Indian we are not at all anything better...If you read the news, today 45 people been masacred by terrorist in Assam today..No one is really worried about we the South Asians...In quest to dominate each other both India and Pakistan has compromised their long term interests at the expense of short term gains...It is the time now to rise above the occasions and our leaders need to think about it...

The reason of my above post is because, Pakistan people are highly emotional people...It is very easy to infleuence the public opinion in the name of religion to Pakistan...Pakistan has benifitted by Muslim nations for sure, but the impact of their help ouweighs the damage that has been done to society..On the other hand if you see, the relationship of Pakistan with Non Muslim nations contributed positively to your nation...Biggest example is China, Japan and to some extent West too...
So your public narrative should now shape up to give clear picture to your people about what is troubling your nation rather than blaming everything with every one except fixing your own house...

Even same thing i would say in India too...India Gov for long time blame ISI for all the issues in India..but off late, Indian people are smart now..and they start demanding to Gov to know the truth..This has all happened because our media is free and they start criticizing our Gov for their actions..

.....Pakistan people are highly emotional people

Bro
it is even easier to influence public opinion in the name of Pakistan.

you may see 80% supports for Mullahs one day
then 80% support against them the next.

As I said,

Our governments either do not realize that we are martial people
Or they have already realized it

Either way if a group of smart rulers up on top decides to channel our energies in one way, we follow
And if they decide to go the other way, we follow.

So the solutions to our problems are bit easier than predicted.

Hope you understand

Thank you.

We make good subjects, and horrible citizens. Yes.

Yes. from Grecko-roman perspective, yes.

This is my favorite topic to ponder why Pakistanis have not learned to be "citizen" so far.

But then we must view our behavior in light of our history

And the history of northren Punjab and Eastern KP is a martial history

And this my brother, can be used to form a good and decent country.

It may need those deep philosophical moorings that you point out. But the base can be fixed in relatively short time.

Call me optimist. eh!

Corrupt politicians have decided to keep PA busy & they have decided to accept PA's requirements by doing so this will allow corrupt politicians to do more corruption, more crimes carried out by their thugs, just recently Ishaq dollar has decided to take more loans.

Ganja Nawaz is only finding ways to save his corrupt reign of rule over Pakistan.
