This will be another huge leap forward for Indian space mission. Isro mini Hubble Telescope being planned
It is not only the US, China and other European countries that are sending highly-equipped and scientifically advanced machines to the space to collect info and data. India’s ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization) has decided to take a plunge. In its latest move, ISRO is busy developing a smaller version of the most-talked about Hubble Space Telescope that is to be called Astrosat.
Confirming this, Kiran Kumar, director, Space Application Centre, Ahmedabad said: “Astrosat is nearly getting ready and it would be unique with three aspects — UV rays, visible and X rays. Even Hubble does not have this aspect. Though Hubble is big, Astrosat will be a small one.” It is understood that Astrosat will come equipped with optical diameter of 300 mm in comparison to Hubble whose optics was 2.4 metre in diameter.
ISRO chairman K Radhakrishnan, who was present at the press meet with other senior scientists, said: “The satellite is being developed and it is likely to be launched sometime next year.” Besides, ISRO is also working on Aditya satellite around the Earth to study the Sun. While talking about its progress, the ISRO chairman said work was in progress and the mission would be unveiled in three to four years.
