NEW DELHI: Israel, one of India's key strategic partner, expects that it defence partnership including co-production of equipment and cooperation in the field of agriculture will get further boost following the anointment of new government at Delhi.

The economically powerful West Asian country is also keen to invest to boost India's infrastructure in the coming deacade, Alon Ushpiz, Israeli Ambassador to India, told ET in an exclusive interview. Not many aware that Israeli Port Cooperation is one of partners in building port at Nargol in Gujarat. Israeli companies are also involved in mega desalination projects in Seemandhra region and Tamil Nadu.

"We have a long term vision in India. Our defence ties are no longer buyer-seller relationship. There is high level of trust and intimacy and we are now involved in co-production. This has been hallmark of bilateral ties and it is expected to expand under the new government at Delhi," Usphiz said, adding, "Bilateral cooperation in agriculture centre has been unprecedented. 20 centres of excellence has been set up in 10 Indian states to assist Indian farmers with state-of-the-technology.Eight more centres are in pipeline. These centres provide tailor made assistance to Indian farmers

Joint Research and Development has been a key area of cooperation between the two countries. The Ambassador informed that there is another fund in the pipeline for the research and development sector.

Usphiz pointed out that the two countries have also created the formal structure for cooperation in public security that encapsulates from policing to counter-terrorism. He also informed that water and affordable healthcare are priorities for India and Israel for joint cooperation. Israel has discovered huge deposits of natural gas and it can be source for India's energy security, according to Usphiz. "India and Israel are water friends," he quipped.

It may be noted that the BJP that has been predicted to win Lok Sabha elections share strong relations with Israel. While former Israeli PM Ariel Sharon visited India during Vajpayee rule, Narendra Modi has visited the West Asian country in 2006. Sharon so far remains the only Israeli PM to visit India since diplomatic ties were established in the early 1990s. Nitin Gadkari also visited Israel when he was the party President. Usphiz, however, asserted that Tel Aviv has no favourites in Indian polity and will work with any party or coalition that forms the next government at Delhi.

There is a growing interest from Israeli companies in doing business in other sectors. Israeli companies have invested in India in energy, renewable energy, telecom, real estate, water technologies, and are focusing on setting up R&D centres or production units in India.

India has also benefited from Israeli expertise and technologies in horticulture mechanization, protected cultivation, orchard and canopy management, nursery management, micro- irrigation and post-harvest management The two countries are also currently negotiating Free Trade Agreement.

Israel is one country besides Russia that India needs to give lot of attention to .

The possibilities envisaged by Indo-Israeli partnership are stupendous ...

Way to go ...

Obvious hai. Both are right wing parties of its respective nations. Israel-India relations are always peak when BJP is in power since 1990.

Very much looking forward to closer Indo-Israeli ties. There is much these two great nations can gain from one another.
