Israel approves 380 new East Jerusalem settler homes | Maan News Agency

JERUSALEM (AFP) -- Israeli authorities gave final approval on Wednesday to the construction of 380 new settler homes in two areas of occupied East Jerusalem, a local official said.

"The municipal commission has given construction permits for 307 homes in Ramot and 73 in Har Homa," Yosef Pepe Alalu, a Jerusalem city councillor with the opposition Meretz party, told AFP.

He said local officials were taking advantage of attention focusing on Israeli elections due in March to expand settlements.

"This kind of decision distances us from any chance of reaching an agreement with the Palestinians," he said.

Despite repeated warnings from Washington that it is fueling tensions, Israel has approved a series of plans for new settler homes in east Jerusalem in recent months.

Israel seized East Jerusalem during the 1967 Six-Day War and later annexed it in a move never recognized by the international community.

It refers to the entire city as its "united, undivided capital," and does not view construction there as settlement activity.

Hundreds of thousands of Israelis have moved into settlements in East Jerusalem that have been strategically built by Israel in and between Palestinian neighborhoods.

The Palestinians want the city's eastern sector as capital of their promised state and vehemently oppose any Israeli attempt to expand construction there.

.
this what happens when Arab governments sell their soul to USA. Any peace talk are BS when USA is the "honest" broker.

.
But but the Israeli people on PDF keep telling me its the Palestinians that don't want peace? Well if you kept trespassing and building on my land I wouldn't be extending my hand to greet you either.

.
Large portion of these "settler homes" is populated by Arabs.

. .
So the arabs who were staying there what happens to them ? How about giving a piece of land to the indigenous people and be done with it ?

.
So? If they are populated by 'Arabs' then let them build it. Why are you doing it?
What do u mean? Like any city in the world. Population is growing new houses are built. Both Jews and Arabs can buy these houses in equal way.

So you meant Israeli Arabs. Then what was the purpose of distinguishing between Arabs and Jews.

Israeli and Jerusalem Arabs. Its Hazzy who is distinguishing.

Arab neighborhood in Jerusalem = 100% Arab population.
Jewish neighborhood in Jerusalem = ~90% Jews ~10% Arabs.

Thats how it works.

Fine.
I don't know the history of all posts between you and Hazzy so I'll just leave here.

Are you kidding me?

These 'settler' 'homes' are one hundred percent considered illegal settlements. Israel annexed East Jerusalem and international community doesn't recognize such move. You are deliberately lying to people which will hurt your credibility here. All 380 settlements are being built in northern/southern part of Eastern Jerusalem in 'Ramot' and 'Har Homa'. They are both illegal settlement 'neighborhoods'. Which is why world repeatedly condemns any new plans to expand both settlements.

Har Homa(which is in East Jerusalem) is built on Palestinian town Beit Sahour. 'Ramot' also on Palestinian land in Eastern Jerusalem is completely Jewish. 'Har Homa' has 25,000 residents and all are Jewish settlers. 'Ramot' also has 100% Jewish population.

All 380 'units' are intended for both 'Har Homa' and 'Ramot' which are pretty much all Jewish. Yet you somehow try twisting this colonization into something beneficial for Palestinians. You are terrible.

This has no relation to Jerusalem is a whole. These is about East Jerusalem and all the settlements built in East Jerusalem and beyond green line. Of course East Jerusalem is supposed to have majority Palestinian population because it is and always has been(past thousands of years) Palestinian land. There is no such thing as Jewish 'neighborhoods' in Eastern Jerusalem.

Those are illegal settlements which import Jews from around world unto such land. They have not ties to the land at all. And they are 100% Jewish only. They are expanding by the week and will eventually alter demographics. It's purely colonization. Not a city shared by two peoples. It is city occupied by Israeli's.

REFILE-Leave or let live? Arabs move in to Jewish settlements

JERUSALEM, Dec 7 (Reuters) - Little noticed amid the furore over one of Israel's most contentious policies, a small but growing number of Arabs are moving into Jewish settlements on occupied land in East Jerusalem, drawn by cheaper rent and better services.

For decades, Israel has encouraged Jews to settle in East Jerusalem, changing the population balance, provoking Palestinian anger and drawing international condemnation.

But in one such settlement, around Mount Scopus where the Hebrew University is based and many Palestinians study, about 16 percent of residents are either Arab citizens of Israel or Palestinians, according to Israel's Central Bureau of Statistics.

"Really it's not a matter of ideology," said Rawya Mazal, an Israeli Arab realtor who sells or lets properties to Palestinian families in a nearby settlement at French Hill. "It's about convenience, living close to campus or making an investment."

Cross-community relations aren't always harmonious. Few if any Arabs live on Jewish settlements in the occupied West Bank, and a surge of violence in recent months has persuaded some to leave those in East Jerusalem.

Like so much in the region, the ethnic mix is complex. Official figures from 2013 show 7.4 percent of French Hill residents are Arabs, and Mazal believes the true non-Jewish population is closer to 20 percent.

Jews were majority in Jerusalem even before the Zionist migration. Many "settlements" are legally bought lands which were captured by Jordanian legion in 1948 war and cleansed from Jews.

Thousands years LOL.

Once again you demonstrate you have no idea what you're talking about. These settlements are built on Palestinian land beyond green line. All 380 upcoming units are in Eastern Jerusalem Palestinian towns. As announced by your government, specifically 'Ramot' and 'Har Homa' illegal settlements. Which are all Jewish. There is not even one Palestinian family living there. And these annexations Israel makes are not recognized by international community.

It's colonization.

Typical Hazzy. After I showed his total ignorance he is attacking me.

Plenty of Arabs live in "Jewish settlements".
