Islamization of Bangla threat to India: BJP MP - The Times of India
PANAJI: Alarmed over the Islamization of Bangladesh, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has urged the Union government to press the Bangladeshi government to protect minorities and to safeguard pluralism in that country.
BJP's Rajya Sabha member Tarun Vijay on Saturday told mediapersons that his party was deeply concerned and anxious over the Islamization of Bangladesh amidst massive protests from the minorities there, largest among which is the Hindu community.
Vijay said the Hindus, Christians and Buddhists of Bangladesh took out a massive morcha on the streets of Dhaka on Friday to protest the adoption of a Islamic constitution by Bangladesh.
"It is the biggest assault on pluralism and democratic norms. The minority communities will be relegated to the status of second-class citizens in Bangladesh. They will never be able to become prime ministers, presidents or even captains of their national cricket team," Vijay said.
He recollected how in Pakistan, a brilliant Christian cricket player, Mohamad Yusuf, had to convert to Islam before he could take up the captaincy of the Pakistani cricket team.
Vijay said infiltration of fundamentalist elements from Bangladesh to India is already posing a problem. "With the official Islamization of Bangladesh, more intolerant forces will infiltrate into India and pose a security threat to our nation," he said, adding that the BJP was deeply "concerned about the safety and future of minorities and the pluralism in Bangladesh".
