What's new

Islamic State warriors blew up 3 Turkish tanks / self propelled howitzers using Metis M

If rebels stop hiding behind civilians and fight on the battlefield face to face, SAA would not need to drop bombs on civilians.
Front in Aleppo is passing through the city just like in Stalingrad. Here Assadist position right on a civilian building:

It amazes me that people still waste their time replying to @500

The dude is completely off the rails.
OK since u are so smart maybe u will answer me why Assad needs to import child soldiers from Iran if he has millions of supporters in Syria?

If you find a cent on the ground, would you pick it up? Yes you would.

Russian propaganda tells that Turkey is supplying ISIS.

Reality shows the complete opposite: ISIS repeatedly uses newest Russian made missiles (note, not old Soviet, but new Russian) to attack Turkey.
Metis M entered service 1992. It has been used in Lebanon by Hezbollah against Merkava's. Russia denied having provided the missiles to Hezbollah. Likely route woud have been delivery to Syria and then smuggled to Hezbollah. Which is what the Israeli's initially claimed.

So, it is used by Syrian government forces. It has also been used by Free Syrian Army. Initially, Metis missiles originated from looted Syrian army depots, while later external suppliers could have been involved. It was confirmed, for example, that Bulgaria have sold 6 sets of 9K115-2 Metis via USA to Syrian Rebels.

So, imho, its a little premature to fully pin this on the Russians.

They are Basijis. all of them are older than 18 and they are not children.
They are religious basijis and because they're older than 18 they can go with their own will.

Doesn't the US use 18 years old soldiers?

Country is responsible for hi tech weapons it is supplying to others too. Javelin and Spike ATGMs appeared in same time with Metis-M and widely exported. But u wont see them in hands of ISIS.

When you say "everyone knows" basically u have no arguments and proofs.

Hillary Clinton admitted it in US senate. Unless you were sleeping when that happend. Taliban were fully funded and supplied by Americans Unless you think they grew Stinger missiles on trees

Javeling dates to 1996. Javelin was spotted in in hands of Syrian Kurdish YPG who were engaged in war with ISIS in Syrian province of Hasakah in 2014. Most Javelin exports are very much post 2000 and then mostly to close US allies. For Spike you need to be sub-type specific.

Any way, with Javelin as with Metis-M, the question is not that they are there, but rather how they got there. As indicated, Syria obtained them and is known to have passed on to Hezbollah. In addition, Free Syrian Army has taken them from captured stores (can you rule out ISIS has not also taken some this way?). There are also third nations e.g. Bulgaria (which is no longer under Soviet control and has a history of shady arms dealing) from which Metis-M has been obtained. (legally or illegally).

Your portrayal is over simplified.
Which doesn't mean't I don't agree with some of your other assertions elswhere in tis thread.

Afghanistan is destroyed because of American made Taliban not soviet invasion.
The Taliban movement traces its origin to the Pakistani-trained mujahideen in northern Pakistan, during the Soviet–Afghan War. When Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq became President of Pakistan he feared that the Soviets were planning to invade Balochistan, Pakistan so he sent Akhtar Abdur Rahman to Saudi Arabia to garner support for the Afghan resistance against Soviet occupation forces. In the meantime, the United States and Saudi Arabia joined the struggle against the Soviet Union by providing all the funds. Zia-ul-Haq aligned himself with Pakistan's Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam and later picked General Akhtar Abdur Rahman to lead the insurgency against the Soviet Union inside Afghanistan. About 90,000 Afghans, including Mohammed Omar, were trained by Pakistan's ISI during the 1980s..
In his interview with ABC News, the ex Pakistani prime minister and Chief of Army Pervez Musharraf said that western countries, chiefly the USA and United Kingdom, had given aid of about 20 billion dollars during the 1980s to Pakistan specifically for training Taliban personnel and providing them with arms and ammunition.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taliban

If I read this correctly, it is true that the SA and US funded them against the Soviet Union but it was Zia-ul-Haq that went out to garner the support for them in the first place. Of course, the alternative would have been to not support them, and then you might well have been stuck with Russia in Afghanistan for the duration.

You would need to consider later developments to fully understand the evolving relationship between these players.

Again, you are right but only if you simpify reality to the point of meaninglessness.

Hillary Clinton admitted it in US senate. Unless you were sleeping when that happend. Taliban were fully funded and supplied by Americans Unless you think they grew Stinger missiles on trees

When US supplied Stingers there was not any Taliban. No one denies that US supplied Afghan Mujahideen. By the way Iran and China supported them as well.

Javeling dates to 1996.
Mass production of Metis-M started even later.

Javelin was spotted in in hands of Syrian Kurdish YPG
US never denied arming Kurds. Where is Javelin in hands of ISIS? U wont see.

Any Spike.

Yep, Assad and Iran showed themselves as irresponsible regimes which arm terrorists. Nevertheless Russia continued supplying Assad with advanced weapons. And we see the results.

Same Mujahideen became Taliban Haqani Network and Gul Bahadur group. No one denies that other world powers didnt support Mujahideen but you were clearly tellin lies earlier and now you just took a UTURN.

Metis-M (aka AT-13) followed Metis (AT-7). Development was during 1980s. The new missile entered service in 1992. Period

Nonono, the parallel was modern atgw in hands of irregular forces. Nice attempt at sidestepping.

Any Spike.
Late 1970s (Spike NLOS): the first variants entered service with the IDF in 1981
If you look at who bought Spike and when, it is self-evident they are not going to end up with combattants in Syria.
And the state of Israel would not like support any of the warring parties with arms (unless you can tell us which arms Israel is delivery to which party, with source reference.)

Apparently you feel the need to remain set in your responses, and possibly even hostile to the idea of NUANCE. As is life ever is plain and simple or blakc and white.

You're on your own now, as far as I'm concerned.

G'day.

Russia had not money to buy them in 1992. Foreign sales also started much later. Thus actual production of Metis-M started after Javelin.

* US openly says it arms and trains Kurds so not surprising they got Javelin (also probably its foreign SF among Kurds who are using them).
* Russia says it is fighting ISIS but we see modern Russian ATGM in theis hands.

Where do u see parallels here?

Because Israel does not sell advanced weapons to irresponsible regimes who hand their weapons to terrorists.

Syria handed weapons to terrorists in 2006 and in response Russia sold (or more correctly gifted, since they never had money) even more advanced weapons to them.

Do you have a source for this claim?

Houthis used Kornet against Saudi tanks. This does not mean Russia directly supplied Kornet to Houthis.
