Islamabad to Get Pakistan’s First Intelligent Transportation System

For the first time ever in Pakistan, an Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) is set to be introduced by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to ease transportation-related issues. The system will be installed at the Islamabad Expressway from Zero Point to Rawat and the traffic will be monitored through this system particularly at the intersections.

Under this system, CCTV cameras, with static and Pan-Tilt & Zoom (PTZ), will be set up after every three (03) kilometers with a coverage of 500 meters along with the establishment of a Traffic Control Center (TCC). The TCC will be linked with field devices having backlight LED Video wall screens, video wall controller, video storage and core network switch.

One of the major components of ITS will be the electronic variable message signs, that will seek to boost road safety and decrease congestion with the help of real-time data on the Expressway including incident management, driver information, strategic diversion and roadwork. Internally, the ITS will be hooked with fiber optic cables which would be laid across the Expressway.

ITS will be able to identify cars and also count them and help manage traffic smoothly during peak hours. Another vital component will be the speed control, the Point to Point (P2P) will be used to identify speed limits through which the average speed for the points would be calculated. Other than this, weigh stations will be set up to inspect car weights alongside the Expressway and E-fine collection system will be established. High power gel batteries will be used as backup to counter any breakdown in the electricity.

To keep the general public in the loop about the traffic at the Expressway, a web portal and mobile app will be developed as well. It is important to note that the ITS is to be established for the first time in an Urban metropolis. After being set up, the system will smoothen traffic flow, boost safety level, curb the environmental impact and will increase quality and cleaner life in the city

If government has money it should be invested in manufacturing and research facility rather than fency new toys.

We can live without these advance systems in use but we cant love without producing them at him as future is about the system and our workfroce needs job as well. It is really easy to import fency stuff and shiw it to people but it has a long teem negative impact on economy

.
This is a good step. We need such systems to control and regulate the traffic especially in metropolitan areas like Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, Islamabad etc.
However, the best approach will be to develop the system locally so the per unit cost can be reduced and more cities can use it.

It depends on who has the money. This money is CDA's so they are not interested in developing such products rather using them so they will just buy it. Rest, kickbacks & commissions are always an integral part of almost every deal.

Dude, constant flow of transportation is as vital to economy and manufacturing as an industrial base is. Not to forget this is exactly what that attracts investment.
It;s not always about setting up a few companies and manufacturing at home instead of buying.
It's about advancing the living standards with whatever means at disposal.
If they are buying today, tomorrow more investors will be inclined to manufacture this at home.
And we the people of Islamabad need this and the CDA has funds for it, and CDA is not responsible for setting up manufacturing units, but ensuring a better living standard for those who live in the capital. It;s the very reason Islamabad is the only place worth living in the entire country.

Needs to be parallel. If this money is coming in extra from Government separately then I agree, if its its budget of development authority, then very well done to them.

With exactly tuis faulty thinking our current account deficit reached 19 billion dollars

Guys what is the most pressing problem of the country ? Is it current account deficit and unemployment or traffic ?

Just one fency road will have no impact on traffic. We have per capita income of Bangladesh (soon to be even lower than that) and our life style is such a lavish.

If you are dying out of cancer and you are short of money then it will be stupid to go to a five star restaurant with the hope that you will feel good and a fresh mind will help your body to heal quickly.

We have to stop buying luxuries and stop thinking on individual basis just like if its CDA then its fine. What is the common need of our nation ? what is the cancer we are facing?

If I would have been at transportation ministry, I would have transferred this amount to have a manufacturing facility for such equipment with a plan to use 30% to 50% of the production facility in upgradation of all the roads in 5 to 10 years time frame while remaining of the production facility for manufacturing of similar products commercially salable such as cameras ...

Ok. Lets ask CDA to stop doing its job and give all money to Government, no need for roads.

On what premise are you basing your whole essay? Do you even know what is the cost of this system? At least I can't see any figures in OP but may be you know from some other source so would you like to share?

Common sense which is unfortunately not so common.

Bro it is not a road but an advance system for road management. Do u really want an advance road management system when you dont have water distribution in Karachi ?

Its really annoying that people dont know how to set the priorities...

. .
Where are the figures & numbers? what it has to do with common sense?
Common sense that such a systems is in tens of carores ...

And what is need of such an advanced system when you have shortage of basic necessities ? Amd that too with the imported goodies ? So you want to buy a tanker of water to be run on a digitally controlled road ... can be a joke bigger than that ?
And if you say islamabad and karachi are different locations then it means you have a sevee problem of funds allocations ...

CDA generates its own income and it is not getting this from govt's money. All over the world, city govts have their own budgets. In USA, many cities are buried under debts like Detroits while others are very rich like Seattle, San Fransisco, LA and Silicon Valley..

From where do CDA generates its own income? Can you please let me know how they can generate enough income (other than through taxes) to maintain and develop such a huge city ?

So you are saying that financial hib of Pakistan do not have enough money to supply tap water to residents is not because of financial miss planning but Karachi must be a poor city ...

Hats off to this argument ...

I will answer your question if you reply to my question which I asked you first but you did not reply yet. I repeat what is the price of this system?

Where did I say Karachi is a poor city?
