I have been requested to visit Turkey for some 10 days in September this year. I watched the news last night and apparently there was a terrorist attack after which the government clamped down on extremists. To the Turk members, and those members who are familiar with Turkey, is it safe to visit now? I will be based mostly in Istanbul and surrounds.

. .
On 27 July 2015, The united kingdom's foreign office posted the following advisory on its website

"On 27 July there were reports of possible threats to public transport in Istanbul, in particular the metro stations at Yenikapi, Taksim, Osmanbey and Haciosman and stops on the Metrobus line.

But i thinks these things are just a propaganda against a peaceful and beautiful country So there should be no fear to visit such a amazing place

only if @Neptune promise me to take on a dinner of kebab and Shwarma :D

Turkey is pretty safe. Don't judge by media reports. Look at South Africa, there are less media reports but the crime rates in certain areas are horrendous

Alright, I will be frank. Anywhere is safe in Istanbul. You're free to hang out as much as you want but I advice you not to go to Okmeydanı in Istanbul. It's not a tourist attraction nor a famous place at all but it's usually where all the Counter-terrorism raids and riots occur. Okmeydani isn't safe for you if you are a policeman or soldier so. But I mean the neighborhood deep inside Okmeydani.
Don't hesitate to ask any further questions.

I have been to your great country - Antalya one week. Ukranians, Estonians, Latvians, Russians, more Latvians and more Russians ..... :-)

I had a great time looking at this. Warning if your burdened with religion do not look.

Ps. Which reminds me I need to talk to any Turkish members in a business idea I have in particular if you have any experiance in Turkish fast food, Gyro/Donner Kebabs etc.

there is terror risk in many major europe cities including istanbul. But that should not stop you from travelling, because the chance of anything happening to you is pretty low.
Political unrest, riots, natural disaster are the one one should watch out for when travelling.

I was in Istanbul for a few days a month ago. If you're staying in Istanbul and surrounds it's pretty safe. They have some volunteering guides that you'll see that you can rely on for free information. Their English is pretty good too.

Wow that's cool. Well the irony is that for us the Turks, we keep complaining about Turkish food abroad arguing they were no near at food back in home. AFAIK Şavurma is Arabic. Döner Kebap is what you actually eat if you're up to Turkish food but you'd probably know that. Because of Döner, big brands here like Subway, KFC, Popeye's, Arby's, Burgerking and even McDonald's fail to have a descent place as they have in Europe and the money goes to Turkish foodmakers thanks to Döner, helps furtherly advancing the domestic economy.

How would I know whether the Turkish food I tasted in Singapore was Turkish or not when you never invite me for dinner ? :(

Antalya is beautiful. For Turkish men its like 'domestic point of contact for investment to Hell" lol.

It's okay, I am from that other 50% of the nation. Besides Antalya even Ankara here is colorful as well, except it's landlocked.

Warning, if you're burdened with religion

Well, I am not an expert but I will try to help if you deem necessary.
