Taj Mahal is declared by western eurocentric scholars as completely foreign architecture on indian territory which has not a bit of semblance to historic indian architectural. This narrative has been picked up by some popular hindu extremists who also govern the indian state of UP where the taj is situated and refused to allow it to be on its tourism highlights for some periods and hindutvas even stopped funding its maintenance.

So this controversy really begs the question whether the taj mahal is really as foreign to the indian architecture as it is claimed to be.

i would use many examples from indian pre islamic architecture and argue that taj is more indian then its claimed as a foreign architecture

The Taj Mahal incorporates and expands on design traditions of Persian and earlier Mughal architecture. Specific inspiration came from successful Timurid and Mughal buildings including the Gur-e Amir (the tomb of Timur, progenitor of the Mughal dynasty, in Samarkand),[11] Humayun's Tomb which inspired the Charbagh gardens and hasht-behesht (architecture) plan of the site, Itmad-Ud-Daulah's Tomb (sometimes called the Baby Taj), and Shah Jahan's own Jama Masjid in Delhi. While earlier Mughal buildings were primarily constructed of red sandstone, Shah Jahan promoted the use of white marble inlaid with semi-precious stones. Buildings under his patronage reached new levels of refinement.[12]

Yes it is foreign... It belongs to Pakistani ancestors and we are its true owners.

Please ship it over to Pakistan. Or declare another Muslim state rather covers the Agra area.

1) four minarets have been declared as ottoman/turkish influence, this notion that taj four minars trace their origins to ottoman blue moque, the four minars of hagia sofia etc, but evidence of this four minar configuration actually traces its roots 2000 years back where stupas are depicted with four towers/minars configuration

the contemporary four tower configuration from hagia sofia from ottoman period and several similar examples from timurid architecture would misleadingly declare it as turkish influence but the examples from buddhist period indian architecture clearly negates that and provides evidence of the indian element in taj's designs.

the four tower cofiguration is also seen at multiple sites in india, but the brightest example comes from indianized state of camodia's angkor wat temple

historically the evidence indicate that the turks while migrating from central asia themselves brought indian architectural elements to western asia and not wise versa, the distinct turkish architecture element was inspired by indian designs.

Is this a remembrance thread before the Taj burns?

I can only pity these hindutva idiots who want to close is down for tourism and let it degrade. Taj Mahal is one of the best cash cows there is. As for whether it is Indian architecture, people who say its not are again idiots to the core. If it was built here, it is indian architecture. There is nothing purely Greek/purely Roman/ purely Islamic/ purely Hindu in archictecture. Each culture created technologies that were used by the other culture. Ever since these civilizations began interacting with each other, they exchanged all sorts of ideas including related to architecture. You can see western influences in various Hindu temples, doesnt mean there are not indian.

I genuinely believe that Taj Mahal is a spaceship which will fly off the ground someday. You get a weird feeling when you visit the Taj

Probably is the feeling that Shahjahan spent more on his wife than your hubby ever will.

It is more likely that a spaceship will land on the pyramids. Watch ancient aliens, some crazy theories out there regarding the pyramids.

Hubby tries. He really does. Being a typical Guju, he cries to spend but he eventually relents and let the credit card go wild :D
