What's new

Is Pakistan the only odd one remaining in the region when it comes to system of governance?

In nutshell:

On east: we got a Hindu extremist/terrorists regime controlling India firmly.

South west: A mullah regime of Iran, extreme right wing. Been there for decades.

North west: A western sponsored liberal/corrupt government just got toppled by Taliban, a extreme right wing outfit.

North: China, a country run by it own indigenous system of governance.

Pakistan, on the other hand is still run by liberal western inspired system, people both in civil and military taking inspiration from western ideas and ideologies. Still running western inspired liberal western democracy, where country masses by en large are inclined towards right wing.

Pakistani system it seems is not inline with realities of today's world, in particular with the region it is situated. Right wing politics is surrounding Pakistan, yet it is still beating the dead horse of liberal left wing, western inspired system of governance. Pakistan indeed is looking odd one in the region.
Pak needs to get back to her “roots”…..

The west would be more than happy to install Fazlur Rahman as supreme leader of Pakistan. A dictator would eventually get corrupt and sell the country off to the highest bidder, while a democratically elected government has to prove itself worthy to rule every 5 years.

I don't know if you're suggesting a democratically elected government does NOT sell the country to the highest (or most powerful) bidder. Look at Lituthania, Ukraine, UK, Australia, Japan, and many others.

The old adage that people get the government they deserve applies here, perhaps.
Yep. The public could've hit the streets when ZAB nationalized key businesses. Instead, the public took the job offers (from swelling said companies into unsustainably large SOEs). The public could've demanded Mushy to use the US aid to invest in key industrial development. Instead, the public took the higher currency value to pay for pricey imports. The public could've again hit the streets when Nawaz Sharif did a Mushy (but with debt, not aid), the public, once again, chose its imported cars.

I don't know the full depth of us Pakistanis, but if there's one issue I do see, is this desire to reap the rewards without toiling on the fields. We want to live up the life, but not work for it. We want to lecture others, but not practice what we preach at home. We want to look down on others, but not climb up the mountain. In a way, our cricket team epitomizes our public mentality.

In summary, the people are pretty satisfied with the way things are done in Pakistan. Why change such a system?

Yep. So, the ones on this forum are the minority.

Not to delve into religion, but the history of the religion... The Aus and Khazraj of Yathrib (which later became Madina) actually liked the Jewish tradition -- i.e., the concept of prophets, a message from God, etc -- and actually sought the savior the Jewish tribes in Yathrib were talking about. In other words, the Arabs of Yathrib wanted Muhammad (PBUH) and everything he (PBUH) brought. So, when they found him (PBUH), they were sold and ready to support his cause.

Just take the religion out of it and think about the concept of wanting change. As you alluded to: Do we realistically see Pakistanis want change?

Can you show laws in India which support your claims above or any school book which is against any minorities.
If you remove your religious glasses and compare India and Pakistan ,law by law you will realise the post you quoted was right .

You guys don't even give equal rights as per your official law ,heck your pm could not even retain a person from a minority community as adviser because of the pressure .
you can site some incidents which happen in India and you know they happen in Pakistan too,but there are laws and such incidents are punishable.
But why put an effort to write at all? These guys seriously believe they are living in a Liberal democracy.

May be this recent study would help understand how "liberal" Pakistan is, amongst its neighbours : https://www.cato.org/sites/cato.org/files/2020-12/human-freedom-index-2020.pdf

The Human Freedom Index (HFI) presents a broad measure of human freedom, understood as the absence of coercive constraint. [ Based on study of 76 distinct indicators of personal and economic freedom]

Regional Countries ranking: SL(94), India(111), China(129), Bangladesh(139), Pakistan(140), Iran(156), Iraq(158)

When you talk about liberalism, tell me in the case of Pakistan, what is the 'liberal' element that you want to remove? Our neighbours oppress religious minorities, force one's way of life on the other, take a radical approach to everything, is that what you want in Pakistan as well? Or are you suggesting that we should stoop to as low a level as them, where we can't reason with/educate our population and impose force? I'm having a hard time grasping your point here.

Thanks to Trump, the world 'liberal' has become a real bad word. That brand of 'liberalism' is tainted by the domestic American political tussles! But it simply means tolerance of 'the other', freedom of expression, freedom of choice in various matters such as clothes, within generally acceptable norms of a society. In Pakistan burqa clad women dominate in most of K-P while in towns and villages of Sindh and Punjab, a 'dupatta' is enough for modesty, and at the same time you'd find many women in Lahore, Islamabad, and Karachi and other cities in trousers and sometimes no dupatta. And that's all is fine! Live and let live. I have an Iranian friend here in America and she can't believe women in Pakistan are not forced to cover their heads--she envies that!

Pakistan is a Sufi-oriented Islamic society. The Islam of the Subcontinent is a balanced one and indeed a lot of conversions from other religions to Islam in the Subcontinent happened due to the Sufis and their version of Islam. That's where Pakistan needs to remain. No extremism of either side. Pakistan can't be a Turkey. But Pakistan shouldn't be an Iran or Saudi Arabia either!!

Handsome prime Minister will transform this country into a Islamic-socialist utopia and saving us from the degenerate liberal west.
Things like Zinna, alcoholal, clubs will be banned. Because it's haram right. Its not like our handsome prime minister was a playboy who used indulge in such things or.

Seriously why do so many Pakistani consider him as a protector of islam?
Alcohol, zinna and clubs were all banned by your pseudo liberal western educated socialist leftie Bhutto back in the 70's.

If laws aren’t implemented in India or unequal for minorities then they are useless as your post on this thread.

I don’t need to show YOU anything - Pakistanis see the news and it is posted all over the forum

What can I say here when my posts are deleted in this forum by calling them "sensitive" as judged by "na maloom afraad"? Better to just read rather than post. :D

It's not possible to put a large and diverse country like Pakistan under any other system than democracy. We have had out experiments with military dictatorships and Pakistanis always want democracy back. It is the only system which gives some kind of representation to all the ethnic groups of the country. If someone wants to bring in China into the debate, it doesn't work; they more or less have to govern one kind of people. With countries like India and Pakistan, any authoritarian form of government will only weaken the state.

Haha, aren't you jumping to conclusions in regards to my political views.
Not all people who point out youthia stupidity are patawari or PPP supporters.
