The military will be the primary users of this network until the commerical applications become more widespread for the general public- that will require a lot of work and the GoI has no control over which manufactuers do so or when.

We definitely have to thank Americans for pushing us to indigenous products be it cryogenic engines and now the GPS they are the one of the main reason for the effort :D:D

For many years now, India has been mostly dependent on the Global Positioning System developed by the US, a project that it began in 1973. However, when the US denied GPS information during the Kargil war in 1999, the nation felt the need for an indigenous navigation system.

The IRNSS system is designed to provide accurate position information to users within the country and in the region extending up to 1500km from the boundary.

Defence is main purpose of NAVIC, it's concept was prepared just after Kargil war to have own GPS system because USA denied use of GPS during Kargil war.
The military will be the primary users of this network until the commerical applications become more widespread for the general public- that will require a lot of work and the GoI has no control over which manufactuers do so or when.
AIK our GPS is more accurate as designed for our purpose & cheaper, so manufacturers will use this after their contract ends.

We can put 2 more satellites & can provide GPS to whole ASEAN, just in ₹250 crores. That will be too good specially for providing navigation to Philippines & Vietnam in SCS & West Philippines Sea.
Edit: USA may not provide GPS for defence purpose to Philippines, will never provide to Vietnam(they will surely GLONASS if we provide facility to them).

It is far more accurate than GPS but it will still be up to induviudal manufactuerers to opt for it or at least build such functionality into their devices. Hopefully some momentum will build up now and this will become the norm within India.

Cricket team has retired many players but ISRO always had one player.
Hope ULV, HLV & Avatar materialises soon.
