Iran’s energy minister: Condition of country’s water resources extremely critical

Baku, Azerbaijan, Feb.19
By Fatih Karimov - Trend:

The situation of water resources in Iran has passed beyond the critical condition, Donya-ye Eqtesad daily quoted Iranian Energy Minister Hamid Chitchian as saying on February 19.

At present, 96 billion cubic meters of the country's total 120 billion cubic meters of renewable water resources is being consumed annually, he said, adding that if 40-60 percent of renewable water resources is consumed in any country, that country is said to be in a critical condition.

During the past decade, precipitations have declined to 242 millimetres from 250 millimetres, he noted.

The water shortage has reached a critical level in Tabriz, Isfahan, Khuzestan, Qum, Mashhad and Hamadan provinces, advisor to Iran's Energy Minister, Hamidrza Janbaz said on Nov.17, MEHR agency reported.

According to Janbaz, currently a special programme is being worked out in order to solve the water shortage problem in the next three years.

"A drought has being observed in the country for nearly 13 years. The demand for water increases with population growth," Janbaz said.

In July, Iran's water supply company warned in a special statement about the water shortage in several cities of the country and imposed quotas for fresh water.

Iran is located in an arid zone and the country has been repeatedly faced with drought in the past 40 years.

The drought of 1992-2002 caused a major blow to agriculture. There were quotas imposed for fresh water in several cities including Tehran.

. . . . .
Mass murder the hezbollahi population.

Two birds with one stone.

Man, people are stupid too, they waste lots of water, for example some of the farmers don't know that if farm dams are not constructed properly it will lead to evaporation and subsequent water wastage!

This is what happens when governmental positions that require education and experience are given to family-members/friends/etc...

Nobody wastes more water than Iranians. I remember growing up in Iran and helping my dad wash his car every other weekend. The hose would not turn off for at least an hour. Every weekend you'd see tens of people in every street washing their car, leaving the hose running for hours on end, sprinkling the back yard with water in the evening... Then there are the cities themselves with hundreds of useless water fountains every 2 meters and the giant army of city workers who are constantly watering city parks for seemingly hours on end day after day.

All of that in a country which gets an avg precipitation well below the world avg.

Canada has 20% of the world's freshwater (by far the largest share) and a population the size of California!! Yet, every summer, households are allowed to water their lawns only for a set number of hours and after a certain time. People who don't follow the rule get fines from the city. It's also restricted to certain days of the week.

This is what happens when governmental positions that require education and experience are given to family-members/friends/etc...
Bingo!

On top of that, they're not only dumb as **** and corrupt as hell, they also happen to be religious nut jobs.

It is not 1/3 of Shah's times ;) this destruction started from pahlavi era.
but I know that in Qajar era, 21% of country was jungles, which now it is decreased to 6.72%. :disagree::disagree:
Both Pahlavi and mullahs screwed Iran's environment.

Iran doesn't need to reduce its population, it is already 47/ sq. km which is far below world average

World average doesn't mean anything in this situation, each country needs to adapt to its own environment.

Especially Tehran should reduce its population, they could start by sending home immigrants. Then put focus on making other cities more attractive than what they are now, so Tehran doesn't become a central hub
