TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi unveiled a series of new military electronic and electro-optic projects, including search and detection, tracking and fire control systems.
Vahidi on Sunday inaugurated 23 electronic and electro-optical projects aimed at expanding the defense capabilities of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The projects include 6 search, detection, tracking and fire control systems capable of detecting, firing and intercepting air and sea targets, he said.
Vahidi pointed out that he inaugurated three other electro-optical projects on Sunday, including photography and imaging systems, which can be mounted on different aircraft and can track enemy targets.
The projects were unveiled on the occasion of the 29th anniversary of the liberation of the Iranian city of Khorramshahr from Iraq.
Former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein's forces captured the port city of Khorramshahr on October 26, 1980 in a surprise attack on the early days of Iraqi-imposed war on Iran (1980-1988) but Iranian forces liberated the city on 3rd of Khordad (May 24, 1982) in a massive military operation named 'Beit-al-Moqaddas'.
Iran in 2011 had also unveiled a series of new military electronic and electro-optical projects, including multi-purpose monitors for the fighter jets and helicopters equipped with new capabilities.
Vahidi in May 2011 inaugurated 12 electronic and electro-optical projects aimed at expanding defense capabilities of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The projects included multi-purpose monitors for fighter jets and helicopters equipped with new capabilities, mobile mapping systems for fighter jets, smart long-range electro-optical systems for observance and monitoring, and shoulder-launched anti-aircraft weapons.
Vahidi pointed out that the electro-optical systems enable Iran to observe, detect and intercept aerial objects without being noticed and therefore can surprise any attacker.
