Iranian army to unveil new home-made weapons and armoured personnel carrier during wargames

The Iranian Army plans to unveil and test new domestically-made weapons and military hardware during the upcoming wargames in Central Iran, a senior commander announced. "A number of armored personnel carriers, weapons, sniper rifles, anti-aircraft batteries and missile launchers will be unveiled in the upcoming Beit ol-Moqaddas 25 wargames of the Army's Ground Force," Lieutenant Commander of the Army's Ground Force Brigadier General Kioumars Heidari said on Friday, April 26, 2013.

He noted that the Army's Ground Force is equipped with the state-of-the-art military hardware which will be unveiled and used for the first time in the Beit ol-Moqaddas 25 wargames to be held in the Central province of Isfahan on May 24.

Commander of the Army Ground Force Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan said last week his forces plan to exercise their capabilities in asymmetric warfare in massive wargames due to be held in Isfahan province next month.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a meeting with foreign military attaches here in Tehran, Pourdastan announced that the Army Ground Force will stage a total number of 8 wargames in the current Iranian year (March 21, 2013 - March 20, 2014).

As regards the first military drills, Pourdastan said the wargames, dubbed as Beit ol-Moqaddas 25, will be held in the general zone of Isfahan on Khordad 3 (May 24), marking the anniversary of the liberation of Khorramshahr city from Iraqi occupation during the eight-year Iraqi imposed war (1980-1988).

"Armored, artillery and airborne units will participate in the weeklong drills," he stated, adding that the participating units will use live ammunitions.

He added that the Army's second wargames will be held in summer in the country's Southeastern regions.

Iranian officials and commanders have repeatedly underlined that all military exercises and trainings of the Iranian Armed Forces are merely meant to serve deterrent purposes.

"When the enemy observes that our Armed Forces are constantly in wargame zones and their fingers are kept on the trigger, it will not dare to invade the Islamic Iran's borders," Pourdastan said in January, underlining the significance of military trainings for boosting the country's deterrent power.

As regards the Iranian Armed Forces' military exercises, Pourdastan described wargames as "very important" to the Iranian military, and said drills have provided the Iranian military forces, including the Army Ground Force, with an opportunity to test its achievements and remove deficiencies for future missions.
