Iran has warned about the serious threat posed by famine and starvation, as preludes to a possible human disaster, in Yemen, urging the international community to adopt strategies to prevent them.

“The continuation of war and bombardment as well as the continuation of aerial and naval blockade in Yemen have led to a huge portion of this country’s people facing famine and hunger,” Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi said on Monday.

He pointed to the ongoing developments in Yemen and the deterioration of humanitarian situation in the war-stricken country and added that the Yemeni people were facing “very difficult” conditions.

He called on international organizations and societies to make more efforts to dispatch humanitarian aid to Yemen given the outbreak of different diseases, especially cholera, in the war-hit country.

The World Health Organization (WHO) reported on May 23 a 50-percent increase in cholera cases in Yemen.

WHO announced that 35,217 cases had been recorded since April 27 when the outbreak started, saying the number showed a 50-percent leap in cases compared to figures given by the organization last week.

Cholera, which causes severe diarrhea and dehydration, is transmitted through contaminated drinking water and could prove fatal in up to 15 percent of untreated cases.

The Iranian spokesperson said there was no sufficient action to resume political talks in Yemen and urged the international community to encourage all political groups to hold negotiations.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran regards a political strategy through negotiations among all political sides in Yemen and the formation of a broad-based government as the only solutions to the existing situation in the country,” Qassemi pointed out.

Saudi Arabia has been waging war on Yemen since 2015 to restore a former president who was friendly to Riyadh. The invasion, in which the US also provides assistance to Saudi Arabia, has killed thousands of civilians.

A cry for help: Millions facing famine in Yemen

  • Yemenis will be in famine unless the world sends urgent humanitarian help.

Antonio Guterres, the UN chief, issued a call to action on Tuesday at the aid conference held in Geneva where donor countries pledged almost $1.1bn.

But UN says the amount is half of what is needed to combat what it is calling "the world's largest hunger crisis".

More than two million children are acutely malnourished in Yemen. Aid workers say almost half a million of them are suffering from severe acute malnutrition which is a life-threatening condition.

Guterres said that on average, one child under the age of five dies of preventable causes every 10 minutes.

"This means 50 children in Yemen will die during today's conference - and all those deaths could have been prevented," he said.

Nearly two-thirds of Yemen's population need emergency support, the UN says [EPA]
"Our financial situation is bad," said Fatema Ali Yahya, mother of a malnourished child.

"Only sometimes we get enough money to buy food. If any of my seven children fall ill, I can't take them to the hospital because we do not have money for medication."

Yemen was already one of the poorest countries in the region, and the ongoing conflict between the government forces and Houthi fighters has made matters worse.

"As a result for the war, my husband isn't working any more," said Um Salem, resident of Yemen's Hodeida.

"He can't go to sea for fishing. All men are jobless. We are suffering from a shortage of food."

    Elderly suffer too
Malnutrition is affecting all vulnerable parts of the Yemeni society, including the disabled and the elderly.

"It's been a year and a half since we're facing difficulties to get enough food for ourselves and our families. We are getting a little bit of food just to survive and sometimes we just stay hungry," said Taha al-Nahari, a malnourished Hodeidah resident.

People are also dying of preventable diseases because health services, which used to provide diagnosis and treatment, have collapsed in most parts.

Speaking to Al Jazeera from Sanaa, Shabia Mantoo, a spokesperson for the UN's refugee agency UNHCR, said there will be no end to the humanitarian crisis without a political solution in Yemen.

"The fault and the cause of suffering is the conflict," she said.

"That is what is needed to be resolved in order to stop the humanitarian crisis."

The disaster of Yemen is not about religion or race or tribes, humanity is dying in Yemen.
It is a test bed for recognizing humans from animals. The huge blockade which is imposed by coalition and USA-Israel axis on Yemen, is causing cholera and other disease. A hungry human will eat anything finds, the main reason of cholera in Yemen.
as a student i will say its a lesson for nations whom public become faithful to other countries more then their own country . this is what happen when you become play ground of other countries
Sir, you should thank God that you are a Pakistani and your president is not a puppet of the invaders on your motherland. Yemenis are dying whether by bombarding or by hunger and disease.

If Iranian concerns and genuine them they must stop supplying arms and ammo to Houthis.
There is no Iranian supplies for them, they have the support of Yemeni army. They don't need our support and we are not going to give coalition the excuse for further blockade on Yemen.

Everybody know how are providing them ballistic missile to attack Riyadh.

.
On the other hand, Houthis easily find Ballistic missiles to fire and any kind of other weapons, just like in Syria,Iraq,Palestine.

The cancer in heart of Islam talks in the victim outfits in this scene, to gain more hearts to spread the cancer for more pictures as in the OP.

The second source has no evidece but only an empty claimant.

The first source says :
1) A Houthi leader said coalition accusations that Iran was smuggling weapons into Yemen were an attempt to cover up Saudi Arabia's failure to prevail in an intractable war in which at least 10,000 people have been killed and the country is on the brink of famine.
"The Saudis don't want to admit their failings so they are searching for false justifications ... after two years of the aggression that the United States and Britain are involved in," the Houthi leader, who declined to be named, told Reuters.
2) Iran rejects accusations from Saudi Arabia that it is giving financial and military support to the Houthis in the struggle for Yemen, blaming the deepening crisis on Riyadh.
3) Brigadier General Ahmed Asseri, spokesman for the Arab coalition fighting the Houthis, told Reuters: "We don't lack information or evidence that the Iranians, by various means, are smuggling weapons into the area.

"We observe that the Kornet anti-tank weapon is on the ground, whereas before it wasn't in the arsenal of the Yemeni army or of the Houthis. It came later."
Kornet is an anti tank missile that you can find it every where on this planet, those weapons are not made in Iran and due to the blockade of Yemen, no one can get close to it's coast lines.

The blockade on Yemen is a well known fact.

The article says that they have found some fishing boats which were smuggling some AK-47s and Kornets to Yemen with zero evidence that Iran has done it. The irony every piece of the article is based on "An unknown official said somehting . . . ." LOL No evidence only claims of an unknown official who says that Iran has sent fishing boats. It is the most ridiculous texture of claimant that i have ever seen. Even common people can smuggle Ak-47s on small fishing boats, but it is easy to blame it on Iran and accuse Iran of spreading so called shi'aism.
The way KSA has attacked Yemeni people, is the most similar one to Israel's invasion on Gaza. We supported Gaza openly and told whole the world that we did it and now i tell you we had no support for Houthis since they don't need us. Yemen has an strong army they will take care of it on their own.
The article as the third source has a funny statement in the abstract section :
"but Iranian military assistance for them has not always been easy to prove."
It is obvious because there is no support from Iran.

I wonder people are whining about Iran's unproven involvement in Yemen but say nothing about Israel's attacks on Yemen. They have used tactical NUKEs in Yemen :

It is confirmed and proved and you can see the above proof.

In addition you have mistaken Iran and KSA, KSA has invaded Yemen and wants to put it's puppet in the ruling place of Yemen Hadi. Hadi has left his country, this traitor bastard is conducting Israeli-Saudi invasion on his own people just because of Saudi dollars and fulfilling his ambition.

Be sure that USA has it's naval ships which completely have blockaded Yemeni coast lines and no one can get close to there except for some fishing small boats that are used by Yemeni people.

Apparently the Houthi militias are trading in Humanitarian aid sent to Yemeni people, it is a well known war tactic to get more supporters by starving them!
