TEHRAN (FNA)- Managing-Director of the Iranian Aviation Industries Organization (IAIO) Manouchehr Manteqi announced that the country plans to unveil new home-made turbofan engines in an exhibition of aerospace industry products in the near future.

"A number of new products, including turbofan engines, will be unveiled in the exhibition in the future," Manteqi said in a press conference in Tehran on Sunday.

A turbofan jet engine has a large fan at the front which sucks in air - most of today's airliners are powered by turbofans.

Manteqi also underlined Iran's capabilities in exporting aviation and aerospace technologies and products, and said, "The volume of our aerospace industries' exports stood at $50mln last year and we seek to increase it to $75bln in future."

Foreign media have also confirmed Iranian officials' announcement that Tehran possesses the technological know-how to manufacture turbofan engines.

Iran has taken "major steps" towards designing large Turbofan engines, Xinhua reported in February.

In February, Deputy Head of the IAIO Brigadier General Abdolkarim Banitarafi announced that Iran enjoys the know-how to design and build small turbofan engines used in various types of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV).

"Today, we are building turbofan engines for a variety of UAVs," Banitarafi said at the time.

Banitarafi said the construction of turbofan engines is a significant step in the direction of building indigenous drones, adding that Iran has also taken "major strides" towards designing large turbofan engines.
