VP: Iran to Become World's Number Four in Scientific Advances by 2018
TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian First Vice-President Mohammad Reza Rahimi lauded the country's eye-catching progress in different scientific and technological fields, and said that Iran "will rank fourth in the world" in terms of scientific advancement in the coming years.
"According to the estimates, we will attain the world's fourth scientific ranking by 2018," Rahimi said, addressing a ceremony held for commemorating selected researchers in Tehran on Saturday.
"Fortunately, important steps have been taken in this regard and the government is doing its best for the advancement of scientific and technological development," he added.
Last week, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad stressed Tehran's determination to continue scientific advancements regardless of the sanctions and restrictions imposed on the country by the West.
"Despite the massive sanctions imposed by enemies, the Islamic Republic of Iran has undoubtedly been able to achieve remarkable progresses in different fields by relying on its domestic knowledge and human resources," Ahmadinejad said in a message read at the Third International Conference and Exhibition on CNG in Tehran.
He added that the Iranian CNG industries had made great achievements like other science-based industrial sectors in Iran and the country is now among the world's advanced industrial countries of the world.
In similar remarks in October, Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei hailed the country's experts and scientists for their strenuous efforts which have resulted in Iran's rapid scientific advancement, and urged the country's researchers not to hesitate one moment about continuing their firm movement on the path of progress.
Addressing a large number of young elites in Tehran at the time, Ayatollah Khamenei expressed pleasure in the atmosphere of dialogue and interaction dominating the country's scientific move and progress, but meantime urged the Iranian scientists to accelerate their efforts.
"Of course there is one concern that a status of satiation and satisfaction will be created due to the country's rapid scientific move and this is while we are still at the start of the path and this (present) scientific speed should not be decelerated or stopped," he underlined.
