Iran sanctions: Middle East stock crash wipes £27bn off markets as Tehran enters oil war - Telegraph

"Stock markets across the Middle East saw more than £27bn wiped off their value as the lifting of economic sanctions against Iran threatened to unleash a fresh wave of oil onto global markets that are already drowning in excess supply."

This is ridiculous. It does not please me that lifted sanctions in Iran hurts the economies of my neighbors.

Gulf countries need to wake up. Middle eastern countries need to join hands and start a strong alliance. This is not wish to or hope to, this is NEED. Otherwise there is no real future for any of our countries. Sure, one country will benefit with their alliance for a few years but it will ALWAYS be stunted growth. And if we ever get too strong, we will be cut down for size, ally or enemy.

If Iran ever advances at the expense of my regional neighbors due to any decision by the west, I won't be happy. Only collective improvent will pleae me. We grow together or we fall together. There is no other alternative.

I will be very happy. Our neighbors across the Persian Gulf are hostile states. Hostile to our interests, culture and even hostile to our very existence.
Im sorry, but its time to look after ourselves only. F*ck the rest.

I'm not saying out of any emotional reason. It is purely pragmatic and rational. EU became EU not due to great love for each other but because they realized only through stability and progress for the whole, can there be stability and progress for the self.

That's not entirely possible for your situation.

You have a State - KSA - which abhors any progress of Iran. KSA has a coterie of states that support it. EU example does not apply to your neighbourhood. Its even worse than our neighbourhood.

Your salvation lies in being better(economically, militarily...and most importantly scientifically) than each one of your neighbours.

Its good to hope for the best, but plan by being pragmatic. And your current Govt has done exactly that.

I am optimistic. Iraq and Syria can be stable very soon and they will understand the need for alliances. Turkey is also becoming more pragmatic after the region not churning out Muslim brotherhood governments as hoped by the Arab Spring. Egypt and Pakistan seem to be acting extremely nuetral and neither are interested in regional stability which is smart. If KSA' adventure fails, Yemen would pull further away from KSA. Lebanon knows the vile experiences of civil war and won't fall into traps again very easily.

That just leaves the GCC. Out of those, Oman is already acting mature. For the rest, they will pay lip service to KSA but I doubt they will put them countries and dynasties at any further risk.

And KSA isn't a lost hope. All it would take is a new visionary outlook and things could easily change. One good lesson that they might be learning is that USA is not their blood brother. They can easily discard them if they please. So far this lesson has made them only more adventurous, that is "if I can't depend on USA to get it done, I should do it myself" However, if this path fails, but the next lesson would be "if I can't depend on USA, maybe I should build a more peaceful region".

You can't develop economic treaty or political alliance when religious/ethnic tensions are at high levels. You still have many people who identify with tribes let alone nationalities. The rulers in the region need to figure out how to lower ethnic tensions. The region needs development as well. The Levant is not that highly developed as the Gulf or Iran. They need tap into natural gas resources already. Problem is Israel disputes all these resources.

Region isn't churning out any Muslim Brotherhood governments because they literally come under military assault once they're elected into power. This happened in Egypt, Libya, Palestine, almost in Tunisia, etc....This is our problem as a people. We don't care how coming to power/asserting influence is achieved. Most of the time it is done by brute force. The current people in power did not achieve power legitimately. Actually only the Muslim Brotherhood achieved power through democratic elections. Every other single governments in the region are dictatorial.

So this region will always face revolt/instability which ISIS will try taking advantage of. People like you don't care that democratically elected governments are overthrown in less than 2 years. So you're angering more people in the region who will later agree with ISIS's approach.

What you're advocating is basically Iranian influence dominating the region. There is no mutual cooperation or benefits or even mutual efforts seen. Which makes me not take you seriously at all. Like I said, I pretty much stopped caring. Because each camp will justify their unethical policies of achieving influence in the most illegitimate manners. And you guys still don't see the disastrous consequences of that. Even if it's 20 years from now, doesn't mean you should ignore what's is being brewed.

Don't presume to talk on my behalf.

I do care if the democracy is real. I supported Hamas when they won the elections and it was disgraceful of western powers to suddenly clamp down on Hamas without giving it any chance just because they didn't like the result. Even if Palestinians like you don't like my country (or think we never helped Hamas or are in bed with USA), it doesn't change the fact that I think Hamas is the legitimate choice of the Palestinians

I also supported Morsi even if he was moving against Iran at the end. If that's what the people of Egypt want, is nothing to do with me.

And even if I don't like Erdogan's foreign policy,I respect that Turks get to choose who they want.

I also support Tunisa's movement.

I don't support the "democratic movement" in Syria and Libya because it was hijacked and abused. Its movement was quickly exploited and abused by foreign powers just because Assad and Gadaffi were not Western puppets.

I think Bahrainis have a right to vote BUT I would never want my country to be physically involved in Bahrain (no arms under any circumstances). Let them move under their own pace.

For the rest of the kings and sheikhs. If the country becomes democratic, better. But between monarchy and foreign-backed civil war, I would hope for monarchy, even if the monarchy is distasteful to me.

The EU was unique, after the war and since the fall of the soviet empire, most EU states are not religious, that was always a big divider, like it is in the ME, Iran stands alone aswell which makes it much harder for them, to many enemies all around you.

That is a very good thinking. Half of Middle East crises will end if Saudi and Irani leadership start thinking like this. Middle East have a weapon of oil. Most of muslim world problems will be solved in an instant if middle eastern leaders unite and understand their true potential.
