Iran President Hassan Rouhani arrived in Hyderabad on a three-day India visit on Thursday. The Iranian leader landed at the Begumpet Airport where Union Minister of State for Power R K Singh welcomed him. Rouhani’s tour comes a month after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited India.

Rouhani and Prime Minister Narendra Modiare set to engage in bilateral talks on Saturday.

“Rouhani is scheduled to address Muslim intellectuals, scholars and clerics at 6.30 pm,” an official source was quoted as saying by PTI. Shailendra Kumar Joshi, the Telangana Chief Secretary, had on Wednesday directed officials of different departments to make a foolproof arrangements for the Iranian President’s visit.

The visit – to Hyderabad and New Delhi – is scheduled from February 15 to 17. This is Rouhani’s first visit to India after he was elected Iran’s President in 2013. A moderate face of the regime, he was re-elected last year for a second term.

Rouhani will also have meetings with President Ram Nath Kovind and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj. Rouhani’s visit, exactly a month after Netanyahu’s, is seen as India’s act of balancing the relationship in the west Asian region. Iran and Israel have a strained relationship, but since India has “strategic interests” with both countries, government officials said that New Delhi needs to carefully balance bilateral ties with both.

On top of the agenda will be early operationalisation of the Chabahar port, which is strategically located in Iran and gives India access to landlocked Afghanistan.

In early December last year, India had sent a minister for the inauguration of the first phase of Shahid Beheshti Port at Chabahar. Rouhani had presided over the event.

India hosting Rouhani, and its commitment to push forward the Chabahar project, will also test the country’s bilateral ties with the US, which, under the Donald Trump administration, has threatened to impose sanctions on Iran.

Rouhani is accompanied by 21 delegates. During his two-day visit to the city, he will interact with the Iranians settled in Hyderabad, PTI quoted sources as saying.

After offering Friday prayers, Rouhani will address a congregation at the historic Mecca Masjid in Hyderabad. Religious scholars from different schools of thought will also participate in the session.

He is also scheduled to visit the Salar Jung Museum on Friday. He will leave for New Delhi on Friday where formal bilateral talks will take place between the two countries. Both India and Iran are set to discuss regional and international issues of mutual interest. Both sides would also review the progress achieved in bilateral relations, the External Affairs Ministry had said earlier.

This will be Rouhani’s second visit to Hyderabad. He had come to India as the national security adviser to Iran’s President Mohammad Khatami, when they visited India from January 24-28, 2003 as the chief guest at the Republic Day parade and had met then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Both sides signed “The New Delhi Declaration”, which set forth the vision of strategic partnership between the countries.

Any major deals expected?

Will Iran go for the Tejas?

Interesting that now Iran and India will trade in Rupees.

Fascinating times ahead for both country.

Love from Pakistan

Definitely fascinating times are coming for both of our countries. We still feel Iranians are our ancestral brothers with whom we had very close cultural & trade relations from the ancient times. We only got distanced in the recent past due to the creation of Pakistan who fanned the hatred for Hindus among the Muslims. Later the Islamic revolution & regime change in the 80's advocated some hostility against India.

But they have paid their price for forgetting their ancestral roots & culture. Now people are slowly realising the ancient glory & things are going to change in the very near future. This will make both the Aryan countries come closer than ever. And they are going to influence the entire Shia population across the globe. It will take some time but it has started. Afghanistan, Balochistan & Gilgit Baltistan will follow suit in the coming decade.

I had told this long before, Iran should get out of the Middle East turmoil & go back to its ancestral culture & roots & slowly you can see it’s happening. It’s only going to gain momentum in coming years. Women are the biggest sufferers. Even in India Muslim women have started rejecting the Islamic practices & voting for BJP for change.

Iran & Afghanistan were beautiful, happy & progressing countries prior to the Islamic revolution till the 80’s.

So we are waiting for a similar relation again with Iran where we can have open trade & more people to people contact like the ancient times. We have great admiration for Iranian people. Parsis are living in India for more than a century & are among the most successful people & have no religious frictions or issues with Hindus or India. One of the greatest business house in the Indian history was & is the Tatas. They are Parsis. Don’t forget Pakistan’s founder Jinnah’s wife was a Parsi. His daughter Dina married a Parsi again & chose India over Pakistan. Her Children are quite well off & a highly respected family in India.

Iran will get back the same glory of the past & India is with them. We have been long waiting for Iran to embrace us like a true brother than look us from the prism of Islam which gives room for barriers.

Unless Pakistan also wakes up to its Islamic obsession & Hindu hatred, they are going to go down the memory lane in coming years. It’s just matter of few years now.

Iran has the potential to be a super power, if they are able to get back the old glory.

Thousands of Iranian students come to India just to enjoy life. You may hate my post, but what I post is reality. Your hatred can ban me but can't stop the world change.

So will UAE and India :yahoo:

You are absolutely right. Not only UAE, it's also Saudi, Qatar & entire Middle East.

Before the UAE introduced the Dirham- INR was the currency.

India is working for sorting out differences among many countries, be it Iran & America, Russia & America or the Arabs & rest of the world.

The Arabs have also started realizing the agony they are facing in the Middle East & slowly opening up to India. There will be a day when the Arabs & Iranians will become friends, the Israelis & the Iranians will become friends again. Can't say even Russia & America. Only country which might be left out could be China unless it mends its ways. Pakistan will perish because it can't shed the hatred of India.

Or me apko bata raha ho agar jang shang hogai to baniya deal krlega

There is no need of war for now when Pakistani still stuck with LOC, Afghanistan, internal terrorism & political turmoil. Every month Pakistan’s forex reserves are being drained by India with continuous engagement at the LOC. We will have the last laugh on Kashmir just in few years.

The Arabs also slowly realizing the importance of India & fast strengthening ties. We just got access to a port in Oman. Arabic countries are giving permission for building Temples much to the envy & shock of Pakistanis. Saudi giving more powers to women, opening the economy & liberalizing the Islamic laws. So yes not only Iran, we are trying to have healthy ties with everyone. If Pakistan gives up Kashmir, we can both develop & have a healthy & happy neighborhood. It's more beneficial for Pakistan than India.

New Delhi: India and Iran on Saturday inked nine agreements following substantive and very productive talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and visiting Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, with a greater focus on strategically-important Chabahar Port.

According to reports, the two sides inked nine pacts, including a pact on double taxation avoidance, visa liberalisation, ratifying extradition treaty, agricultural cooperation, port lease, medicine and others.

The agreements were signed after PM Modi and Rouhani held wide-ranging talks aimed at boosting cooperation in key areas of security, trade and energy, External Affairs Spokesperson Raveesh Kumar tweeted.

Addressing a joint press conference with Rouhani, PM Modi said the visit by the Iranian President shows how the two sides want to deepen cooperation in key areas, including connectivity.

Giving details of their comprehensive talks, Modi said the two leaders discussed threats posed by terrorism, drug trafficking and other challenges.

On his turn, Rouhani said, "We are determined to combat terrorism and extremism."

The Iranian leader also said that regional conflicts must be resolved through diplomacy and political initiatives.

PM Modi also appreciated the way the Iranian leader provided leadership in developing strategically-important Chabahar Port.

Apart from tax pact, the two sides also exchanged instrument to ratify the extradition treaty as well as to simplify visa process.

Earlier, Rouhani was given a ceremonial welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

In the morning, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj called on Rouhani and discussed various issues with him.

We told you 2.5 does not work

.
2.5 is just to be prepared. There won't be need for it. We may not even need 1. And we are not dependent on 2.5 alone. We have plan B if it fails- Plan C, D & so forth.

What will you do when you know your armed forces & people are going to be massacred & your country is in the verge of take over by India. Same applies (Just giving you a scenario - Don't get worked up people)

And we are not alone, today we have many powers behind us, unlike you. For Pakistan we even have your own people from inside who will help us, apart from your neighbors & technology, unlike the weak & ill-equipped India before 99 & we had no support. Everybody were in support of you
