Iran, Pakistan discuss enhancement of road transportation

ISLAMABAD: Iranian and Pakistani officials underlined the vital importance of increasing road transportation between the two neighboring states, and voiced their pleasure in utilizing abundant capacities of this sector as a base for consolidating their ties in other fields.
Director-General of the Border Terminals and Transit Office and Iranian Head of the Commission Mohammad Javad Atrchian and Pakistani Deputy Communications Minister B. Jalal, emphasized role of road transportation in boosting bilateral trade volume, Fars News Agency Reported.

The two sides emphasized the need to raise working hours of the customs staff and increasing the number of staff in border terminals in order to upgrade trade. The Iranian official referred to setting up of Taftan border terminal and two service facilities as well as facilitating customs formalities, less control and extra checking and facilitating road transportation as provisions of the mutual agreement.

Jalal, for his part, said Pakistani officials are willing to expand ties with Iran in various fields, including road transportation and said Iran and Pakistan can expand rail transportation as a link between East Asia and Europe.

The Commission was held at the Islamic Republic of Iran Road Maintenance & Transportation Organization in Tehran on March 14-15.

Iran and Pakistan have exchanged delegations on a regular basis and the two neighboring countries are keen to expedite expansion of their bilateral trade ties.
