Military intervention to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons still on table, according to US secretary of defense
Jul 20, 2015 08:30 GMT

US Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter has said that the option of military action to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons still exists despite the nuclear agreement sealed with the country last week.

Carter made the remark on his way to Israel, the first stop on his tour of the Middle East. Carter will later visit Saudi Arabia and Jordan to renew US security commitments in the region.

Carter’s comments were likely made in an effort to calm Israel, the main US ally in the Middle East, which is one of the harshest critics of the long sought after agreement on the Iranian nuclear program.

However, Carter admitted that he will not attempt to persuade anyone in Israel in regards to the deal, but instead confirmed the US’ desire to protect Israel has not diminished.

Carter told reporters,“One of the reasons why this deal is a good one is that it does nothing to prevent the military option.”

However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described the agreement as a "historic mistake" which would open the way for Iran to produce nuclear weapons.

In an interview on Sunday, Netanyahu rejected proposals that the US may raise the level of military aid to Israel following the agreement, saying that to accept this would suggest Israel's approval of the deal.

Defense Secretary Carter arrived in Tel Aviv on Sunday, where he will meet his Israeli counterpart Moshe Yaalon Monday before holding talks with Netanyahu on Tuesday.

The deal between Iran and six world powers - Britain, China, France, Germany, Russia and the United States - is aimed at monitoring Iran's most sensitive nuclear work for over 12 years in exchange for immediate relief for the country from the economic sanctions which have long crippled its economy.

It is up to Iran now. No more games.

.
If they're prepared to give away that much in the deal then there's obviously no chance of an attack whatever happens.

Lets cut the crap ok? Your dreams of Iran being weak and divided becoming more isolated were shattered by the deal. There will be no horse riding Aliyev conquering Iranian Azerbaijan or any other kind of your wet dreams.
We enjoy the frustration of the enemy. We know the enemy wanted that the powers keep the sanctions, just to fully benefit from the sanctions.
But one thing we keep is the nuclear program and one thing we leave behind are the sanctions.

Turkey and Azerbaijan is actually the only neighbors who were against the sactions. If Iran doesn't play silly games and keep its word, and the deal goes on then there will be integration. South-Azerbaijan willl automatically be integrated by us.

Who cares ? They are saying the same $hit since the 1980's.
Sadam, Khadafi said the same thing.

Have you read the article?

The only ones that are going to be integrated with you are... aliens, with pure Turkish blood, as you have always wished.

This guy was so desperate and panicked over the deal that he started to spam the Iranian nuclear deal thread with old news of deal not being reached etc.
These wahabis and most Turks seem badly butthurt over the deal. I don't blame them, it will not be a all positive thing for them ;)

If I were you turks, I would worry about the Kurds in your country and not allowing them to split your country in half. Iranian Azaris are Iranians, and have historically slaughtered Turks/ottomons.
Now that Iran is much richer, you best be careful or you'll have money bring poured into groups to destabilise turkey and split your country in pieces.

If America thought they could gain from attacking Iran, they would have done it ages ago already.

Obviously they don't have the stomach for it, regardless of nuclear deal or not.
Same can be said about Saddam and Gadaffi. Why didn't they attack them decades ago? They could right? But in reality they waited and gave them a fair chance to change for the better. This baby is still on the table:

I hope Iran keeps its word and the deal goes through though. There are a lot of business opportunities for Turks and Azeri Turks in South-Azerbaijan. The ball is in Iran's court. Let's hope they make the right decisions.

Keep spouting out your butthurt comment. You think it is not obvious you're burning?
There is no such thing as Azari Turks. There is only Azaris, the ones whose Iranian ancestors slaughtered countless Turks/ottomons.

This deal is not a good news for you people. You think Iran was something under sanctions, just wait now that it is vastly richer. Turkey is already not in a good position, things are about to get much worst for you.

The Americans you worship do not have the intestinal fortitude to make such moves against Iran. Same with the Israelis. If they could, they have made an attack years ago and would not have resorted to a deal in which they gave countless concession to Iran. Now weep ;)

America had to back down on pretty much every single demand regarding this nuclear deal.

It seems clear that the "military option" was never really on the table. The US either had to take all the concessions, or get nothing.

I don't know why you are hostile. Are you against business relations between Turkey, Azerbaijan and Iran? There is a lot of linguistic and cultural affiliation. It is bound to become something great. ;)

And that should explain where those remarks were directed at.

Yes some of them may be, but to state that Iran had won as well won't be correct as well. Although Iran will surely capitalize and use to its advantage, sanctions were really taking a toll on Iran. But it would be a fallacy to expect Israel and KSA quietly accepting this deal, they might still try to torpedo this deal.
