Chabahar and Gwadar can complement each other by allowing closest enroute shipping to unload to railway transport. This can benefit Iran and India if Pakistan allows land route for their goods. Also we will be uncomfortable using a facility that is managed by Indians.

Can any Iranian or Chinese member can confirm Iran and China using Gwadar for trade? Cuz its stupid to think being neighbor Iran-pak will be using a port. Also article proposed pak joining chabahar i.e., Iran not going to join CPEC/Gwadar.

Actually this would be good news if pak join chabahar/INSTC, Indian point was to reduce Gwadar/CPEC significance and i see us achieving that.

To be honest, I doubt Iran will rely on Pakistan given the faux pas they did with the Iran pipeline agreement, at their most economically perilous time.

And Chinese participation in Chabahar will be welcomed by both Iranian and Indian counterparts

Well thats not the case.

Gwader port will transform the business in the region. Definitely it will take away some business from the regional ports due to its strategic location but at the same time it will provide a lot more business. China needs a lot of petroleum products which UAE can provide through Dubai and Chinese products will travel faster and cheaper to UAE so overall the business will be accelerated.

Chabahar and Gwader ports complement each other and both would be linked and help both countries for trade, Iran can benefit from Gwader for large shipments that Chabahar cannot handle.

Islamabad: Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif has invited Pakistan to participate in the Chabahar Port project that connects India to Afghanistan, Central Asia and Eastern Europe, a leading Pakistani daily reported on Tuesday. The move may be seen as Zarif's bid to allay concerns here over the Indian involvement in the Iranian port, Dawn online reported. The Iranian minister also, meanwhile, extended the invitation to China.

"We offered to participate in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). We have also offered Pakistan and China to participate in Chahbahar," Zarif, who is on a three-day visit to Pakistan, said while delivering a lecture at the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI) on Monday, according to the daily.

India, Iran and Afghanistan signed a trilateral agreement in 2016 to jointly develop the Chabahar port, opening a new strategic transit route between the three nations and other Central Asian nations, bypassing Pakistan. In November 2017, India delievered the first consignment of wheat to Afghanistan through the Chabahar Port.

Zarif had earlier held bilateral talks with his Pakistani counterpart Khawaja Asif and addressed a trade conference. The visiting Foreign Minister is being accompanied by a large trade delegation from Iran. He also said that Gwadar Port and Chabahar Port needed to be linked through sea and land routes for development of deprived Eastern and South-eastern Iran and South Western Pakistan.
