There is an extent to what sanctions can do and those willing will go to any lengths with or without sanctions. Why not sit with them and talk to them and negotiate a settlement. Iran has time and time again said it does not intend to build a nuclear device than why did US under Trump pulled out from the deal? Iran was adhering to the rules against certain sanctions being lifted but Trump had to piss on everything. Now look where you stand!

Because ultimately this isnt just about a possible iranian bomb,this is about western hegemony over the middle east and its resources and iranian rejection of that hegemony.If you look at pompeos list of 12 demands you can see that what the west is really after is irans unconditional capitulation,the nuclear issue is really just an excuse and if it hadnt been that then it would`ve been something else,and even if the iranians capitulated that would still not necessarily guarantee irans survival,after all look at what happened to libya.Now it is still possible,tho extremely unlikely,that short term political deals could still be done,but these deals like the jcpoa would be strictly limited to the political lifespan of the regimes that made them ie 4-8 years AT MOST.

Iran can make at least 1 and at most 12 fission bombs depending on whether the LEU is 5% or 20% and the bomb technology in use. U238 can't be used for bombs, no matter how much quantity is used. The minimum requirement for a bomb is 90% enriched U235. Modern bombs need only 20kg U235 whereas if one is using 1945 level bomb technology, it will be 50kg U235. Since Iran is just making the bomb, initially, it likely will be conservative and hence only older model using 50kg U235.

You can make a bomb with low enriched U-238, low enriched U-238 still has <20% concentration of U235, its not 100% U-238. Its doable but impractical. And minimum req is 20% not 90%. But 20% is very impractical. Hiroshima bomb had 80%
