Iran designates US military a terrorist organization

The move by Iran Supreme National Security Council was announced shortly after US President Donald Trump designated the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) as a foreign terrorist organization.

Earlier today after the US administration's latest adventurous move, the Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif had written a letter to President Hassan Rouhani, who is the head of National Security Supreme Council, recommending him designate the US Central Command (US CENTCOM), which is responsible for the troops in the Middle East, on Iran’s list of terrorist organizations according to ‘the law of dealing with human rights violations and US adventurous and terrorist acts in the region’, previously approved by the Iranian parliament.

The SNSC’s statement described the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) as a force spearheading the fight against US backed terrorist groups such as Al-Qaeda, ISIL, al-Nusra Front etc..

The statement further declared the US regime as a ‘sponsor of terrorism’ and ‘US Central Command-the CENTCOM’ and all related forces as ‘terrorist groups.’

It concluded by holding the US regime responsible for the ‘dangerous consequences of their adventurous move.’

In response to Washington’s decision to put Iran’s Revolutionary Guards on the terrorist list, the Iranian Supreme Security Council declared the US a “terrorist government” while calling the US CENTCOM a terrorist group as well.
Following what it called an “unlawful and unreasonable action” of the US, Tehran officially declared the US “a terrorist government and the US Central Command known as CENTCOM as well as all its affiliates a terrorist group,” a statement of the Islamic Republic’s Supreme National Security Council headed by President Hassan Rouhani said.

The statement blamed CENTCOM for harming Iran’s national security as well as ruining the lives of “innocent Iranian and non-Iranian individuals” to promote the US' “aggressive policies” in Western Asia. It also specifically mentioned that the US is “involved” in the killing of people in Yemen, where a Saudi-led coalition wages a brutal military campaign against the Shia Houthi rebels. Washington has long provided intelligence and logistic support to the Saudis, and also sold them weapons as part of arms deals worth billions of dollars.

The US and its allies “have always been advocates of extremist groups and terrorists in the Western Asian region,” the council said, adding that Washington has to take responsibility for “the dangerous consequences of its adventures.”

Earlier on Monday President Donald Trump announced the US' decision to designate Iran’s elite military unit, the Revolutionary Guards Corps, as a terrorist group.

The Iranian Security Council condemned the move by calling it “an illegal and dangerous action” that poses a “major threat to the regional and international peace and security as well as grossly violates the rules of international law.”

After Washington put Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps on its terrorists list, the Iranian Foreign Ministry asked President Hassan Rouhani to designate the US Central Command (CENTCOM) as a terrorist organization.
Due to the “clear support” US forces in Western Asia lend to terrorist groups, and their own “involvement in terrorist activities,” the US military in the region should be put on a list of terrorist groups in the Islamic Republic of Iran, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said in a letter sent to Rouhani and Iran’s Supreme National Security Council by the ministry.

There has been no official response to Zarif’s suggestion so far. However, earlier, the Iranian lawmakers threatened to designate some parts of the US military as a terrorist group in response to measures taken by Washington.

Some top Iranian officials also suggested putting entire US Army on the terrorist list altogether.

Earlier on Monday US President Donald Trump announced that Washington had officially designated the Iranian elite unit as a “terrorist organization,” accusing it of being the “primary” force behind Iran’s alleged “global terrorist campaign.” US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo then explained that the designation is set to take effect in one week.

Iran’s top judge, Seyyed Ebrahim Raeisi, also lambasted Washington's decision accusing it of supporting extremists. “A country, which has no other track records but arming, supporting and harboring terrorist groups, considers an official armed force of another country … a terrorist [organization],” he said, as cited by the Iranian Press TV.

Raeisi also said that the US move is likely to have no effect both in legal and political terms “in the eyes” of other nations.

Iran’s Supreme National Security Council says it has designated the United States Central Command, also known as CENTCOM, and all its forces as terrorist and labeled the U.S. as a “supporter of terrorism.”

The semi-official Fars news agency reported the statement by Iran’s National Security Council on Monday. It followed the U.S. announcement that it has designated Iran’s Revolutionary Guard as a foreign terrorist organization.

The statement from the council came after Iran’s foreign minister said he wants to include the Middle East-based U.S. military forces on his country’s “terrorist groups” list.

Israel’s prime minister is thanking President Donald Trump for recognizing Iran’s Revolutionary Guard as a “foreign terrorist organization.” Benjamin Netanyahu says the designation “serves the interests of our countries and of countries in the region.”

Netanyahu, who seeks reelection on Tuesday in Israel’s parliamentary elections, wrote on Twitter in Hebrew on Monday following the announcement that Trump was “answering another of my important requests.”

Israel has long considered the Islamic Republic of Iran to be its greatest foe, citing its leaders’ hostile rhetoric, suspect nuclear program, development of long-range missiles and support for anti-Israeli militant groups such as Hezbollah.

Netanyahu says: “We will continue to work together in every way against the Iranian regime that threatens the state of Israel, the United States, and world peace.”

Iran’s foreign minister wants to include Middle East-based U.S. military forces the country’s “terrorist groups” list.

In a reciprocal move after the U.S. announced it has designated Iran’s Revolutionary Guard a “foreign terrorist organization,” Iran’s foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif made the demand in a letter to President Hassan Rouhani, according to the official IRNA news agency.

Zarif also sent a protest note over the U.S. decision to the Swiss embassy in Tehran, which looks after the U.S. interests in Iran.

The U.S. made the designation Monday to increase international pressure on Iran.
