Engine is the most critical and mother of all. Sweden is brag ahead of most 2-3 decades ago. But until 2017, they still need to import F414 engine from US for gripen. Nothing has changed. The sheer amount of finance and industries support is enormous. If India has such trouble producing satisfactory propulsion what makes turkey with a small industries, economy has a better chances?

China and US are in different league. Both are the only countries with double digit trillion annual economy. The effort and money needed are unimaginable.

Don't be fool by the word indigenous. Can India LCA or gripen flies with US embargo? My word still stands, Sweden until now still need to import the core engine or even advance chipset from US despite many decades of domestic produced aircraft.

China after invest USD 24 billion in infrastructure, attract talent, upgrade of university before producing our own gas turbine and turbofan for our 055 destroyer , VT-4 tank , Z-10 gunship and J-11 fighter plane.

How many countries can invest USD 24 billion and do it in such "large scale? Mind you this sum is for propulsion alone and does not include investment in chips set, metallurgy industries , design bureau.

China spend around $100 billion to $200 billion just to build up this base.

For its size and population and yet they can accomplish so many things but there is a limit to what they can due to their small size. But that does not take away the credit from them. Most tanks around the world use foreign engine, and it's true Israel only make stuff it think are affordable for profitable.
U.S made aircrafts with Israeli avionics are better for Israeli economy than making it's own fighter jets.
Politics too play a major part in the defense industries.
However, Israel defense industries should not be undermined, as they're major exporter in the field

I completely agree with you. All those fancy tech dont mean anything in a war if US puts an embargo on your a$$. You can have the latest millitary equipment and even manufacture it in your own country, but if you get embargoed and US bans you from importing important parts (Lets think war scenario, or disagreement with U.S) Not only will you no longer be able to produce new equipment, planes or whatever. You wont even be able to maintain your existing ones.
