Intruder from elite Bangladesh force held

He was part of an illegal raid on a border village

An intruder soldier of an elite security force of Bangladesh landed in an Indian jail after the Border Security Force (BSF) failed to hand him over to its Bangladeshi counterpart, the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB). A court in Sonamura in Seepahijala district, West Tripura, sent Mohammad Milan Hussain, soldier of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), charged with violating the Indian Passport Act, to judicial custody for two weeks.

Hussain was part of an RAB contingent that infiltrated the Indian side at Rahimpur village adjacent to the international border on Saturday to search for a consignment of banned cough syrup, which is smuggled to Bangladesh in large quantities. As the villagers protested the raids, a woman and a few others were injured.

“The villagers caught one RAB man while the rest fled across the border,” Timir Das, Seepahijala Additional Superintendent of Police, told The Hindu.

He said the RAB men were in civilian clothes but armed. Hussain informed the BSF and the police that the team was headed by a senior officer, Mohammad Kamrulzaman.

The BSF first took custody of the intruder and took him to Ashabari camp where he was interrogated by Indian security and intelligence officials. “He cooperated during questioning and we believe he just complied with the order to conduct a search in the village,” a BSF official said.

The BGB responded to a call from the BSF to hold a flag meeting where a formal protest against the intrusion was lodged. In the meeting that continued till Saturday midnight, the BGB refused to confirm the identity of Hussain and did not offer to take him back.

The BSF called the police on Sunday morning to transfer his custody.

“Villagers did not file a complaint, so we booked him under the Passport Act. The court sent him to judicial custody for 14 days,” Mr. Das stated.

Mr. Das said that like his fellow soldiers, Hussain was also armed but when caught by the villagers he threw away his weapon towards his fleeing colleagues. His official identify card was recovered from his possession.

1. BGB is not an elite force. BGB is the demoralized outfit left after the Indo-BAL strike on Peelkhana.

2. So far nothing has come in BD media on this. We need to wait for that. Indian media mostly print bogus news which we don't believe till substantiated.

You have to be dumb to carry your ID card on a cross border raid.

BGB was obviously unaware of this - such silence amongst rival agencies is not un natural.

On reading carefully it would be evident that the man in question is from Rapid Action Batallion & not BGB.

The RAB is supposedly an ' elite' outfit - whatever it may mean. Does'nt appear to be much of an outfit though - the guys were neither briefed not checked before they set out , why else would a man talk so much & carry is I Card ?

Isnt this old news ? Recall reading of a similar event some time ago.

My mistake. The report says RAB which is a sort of central police. It is not elite, etc.

Rapid Action Battalion

Not that it matters but see the link to the RAB website above. The second line in english says its the " Only Elite Force in BD " The rest is in Bangla..

Whats with this obsession of being ' elite' or not ?

This wouldnt have been a issue if they take him back. Since the border is kind of open in many places BSF may not take this raid seriously.... Now BSF is stuck with this guy....

. .
The men from Bangladeshi elite armed forces are not that elite after all.

On the second thought, BSF should have killed them without any second thoughts. They were in civilian clothes, and armed. Could have been branded as terrorists easily. The law was on our side.

Bangladesh has No Elite Force, it only has ELITE Pole Vaulters. PERIOD.

RAB is elite force of Police :coffee:

because being member of elite force, he violated rules or failed to complete mission whatever it was

Now lets look differently.... Other guys ran away and this guy stood ground and fought then?
