daily sun | First Page | Interpol help sought to nab coup plotters
Bangladesh Army Tuesday said the disciplined force already made a move to run in the plotters of the abortive military coup through the International Police Organisation (Interpol).
Such a statement was made during a meeting of the parliamentary standing committee on defence ministry at the Parliament Secretariat.
The watchdog earlier had recommended that the government spot expatriate businessman Ishrak Ahmed and Major Syed Ziaul Haque, who were allegedly involved in the attempted coup, with the help of Interpol.
The army has informed the committee that a process is underway to find out the two with the help of the Interpol, Idris Ali, chairman of the committee, told reporters after the meeting.
Committee members Mosharraf Hossain, Mujibul Haque Chunnu, Nurul Mazid Mahmud Humayun, Rafiqul Islam and Manjur Quader Quraeshi and PMs representative MA Mannan attended the meeting.
As per media reports, the alleged persons tried to stage a coup in 2011, but the army at a briefing denied such news.
Meanwhile, the army on January 19 at another briefing said an attempt to topple the government by some disgruntled army personnel was foiled.
On 11 September last year, it was informed that the government increased vigilance to locate the plotters, and Ishrak might stay in Thailand.
High military officials, among others, attended the meeting.
