LAHORE – The Internet has quickly managed to find its way in all fields of human life including, health, education, agriculture, science, technology, government sector, and banking, and we have become so dependent on it that it is almost impossible to remember how we ever managed to get things done before the Internet.

In Pakistan, Internet penetration picked up after the simultaneous introduction of 3G and 4G/LTE services in April 2014. All the mobile operators now offer 3G internet services across Pakistan, but 4G/LTE is offered only by Zong, Warid and Telenor and that too only in specific areas of Pakistan.

Out of these, Zong 4G comes highly recommended, but is that the one you should really be buying? Daily Pakistan Lahore has conducted a survey of Pakistani Internet service providers based on their downloading speed, uploading speed, package plans, and PING, an indicator of how fast you get a response. The survey was conducted on different locations in Lahore and our team obtained different readings, however, only higest readings are used while comparing the service providers.

Have a look at the comparison:
Warid

Warid launched its services for Pakistani mobile users in 2005, In April 2015, Warid upgraded its services from 2G to 4G/LTE.

Although Mobilink has taken over Warid in Pakistan, however, sims and devices issued by Warid work properly under the new label. For testing the Warid’s speed, we opted for a device that was issued by and previously used Warid’s network.

Warid provides five monthly data plans for both prepaid and postpaid customers.

Here is a list of the data plans offered:

RS.500 5GB
RS.800 8GB
RS.1,500 15GB
RS.2,000 20GB
RS.3,000 35GB
According to our result, the downloading speed over Warid 4G/LTE mobile device was 48.84 Mbps and uploading speed was 20.80 Mbps with PING of 161 milliseconds.

Jazz (Mobilink)

Mobilink Pakistan (now Jazz) started its operations in 1990 as the first GSM cellular mobile service in Pakistan, and it remained Pakistan’s only GSM cellular operator until the arrival of Ufone in 2001. In November 2015, Mobilink announced its merger with Warid Pakistan and after one year Mobilink announced that Warid customers would be able to use their 3G network, and Mobilink customers would be able to use Warid’s LTE network.

Jazz offers three monthly internet packages for its users.

RS.999 15 GB
RS.1,500 36 GB
RS.2,500 75 GB
In our result, the downloading speed over Jazz 4G/LTE mobile device was 8.91 Mbps and uploading speed 2.99 Mbps, while the PING was 76 milliseconds.

Telenor
Telenor-1.jpg

Norway based Telecommunication company Telenor acquired a license for providing GSM services in Pakistan in April 2004, and launched its services commercially in March 2005.

In August 2016, Telenor Pakistan became the third 4G network provider of Pakistan.

Telenor Pakistan offers four monthly and one 90-days 4G/LTE internet packages for its users.

Rs.1,500 25 GB 30 Days
Rs.2,200 55 GB 30 Days
Rs.3,800 100 GB 30 Days
Rs.6,000 180 GB 30 Days
Rs.4,000 75 GB 90 (25GB/30 day)
According to the survey conducted by Daily Pakistan Lahore, the downloading speed over Telenor 4G/LTE mobile device was 6.01 Mbps and uploading speed 5.96 Mbps with a PING of 23 milliseconds.

Zong

Zong or China Mobile Pakistan started its GSM operations in April 2008, It is Pakistan’s second largest GSM mobile service provider and the third largest mobile service in terms of subscriber base, over 29 million.

In April 2016, Zong launched 3G and 4G services, making it the first Pakistani operator to do so.

Zong offers five monthly 4G/LTE bundle packages.

Monthly 24GB Rs. 1,500 1 Month
Monthly 50GB Rs. 2,500 1 Month
Monthly 100GB Rs. 5,000 1 Month
Monthly 150GB Rs. 8,000 1 Month
Monthly 200GB Rs. 10,000 1 Month
Unfortunately, in our re, ult Zong 4G/LTE didn’t perform well and secured the last position in the speed race, with a downloading speed of 2.38 Mbps and uploading speed of 0.40 Mbps with a PING of 63 milliseconds.

This wasn’t always the case scenario when the 4g services came to Pakistan Zong was one of the best and fastest Internet service provider. However, with so many users registered to the network, Zong is facing troubles to maintain providing good speed Internet.

So, next time someone recommends that Zong 4G connection, stop and think: is it really worth it?
