India’s second indigenous aircraft carrier (IAC-2) aka INS Vishal might still be in the preliminary design stage, but it is pretty evident now that Two Cold war Bitter Rivals will join hands with India in the development of Next Aircraft carrier for Indian Navy which will help it dominate seas beyond its area of influence.

Russia’s Neva Design Bureau is closely working with Indian Navy’s Naval Design Bureau (NDB) which has been tasked to design and develop Biggest Warship India has ever developed in Country.

INS Vishal with a displacement of around 65,000 tons will be powered by Nuclear propulsions which will be able to operate nearly 50 fixed and Rotor aircraft from its Decks and will be equipped with Modern Next Generation Air Defense Systems and Advance Surveillance and monitoring radars.

INS Vishal will be a Unique ship since it will see for the first time active participation of Russian and US Defence companies coming together to work on developing Single weapons platform for India.

Russian Design team most likely will be roped in Ships Design aspects and will also provide consultation in the development of many key technologies for Ships Nuclear propulsions and safety mechanism, While the United States will be roped in integration of Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS) along with aircraft launch and landing mechanism for which the US along with India will need Russian help to certify Russian-supplied Mig-29K fighters for operations from its decks .

The United States will also provide consultation and also supply key sensors and help in integration of many weapons systems in the Super Structure of the warships.

while the US and Russian team will not have any direct interaction with each other it will still require a great deal of detail planning in design stage its selfs to avoid complication in the various system coming in from different countries which will require some level of informal exchanges before actual works begin.

Both countries have different Naval design philosophies in the development of warships and some keynotes have to be exchanged for a proper understanding of tools and machinery for which Indian Naval planners have to work together.

Wonder who will get the order...... Wish CSL to be the one, but I doubt they have infra to build a 65 ton ship..... wiki could not come to vendurithy due to depth issue

It will be a great achievement to overcome all the hickups during designing & building the ship.
Rest assured INS VISHAL will be on class of its own. :yahoo:

Actually i do not bother much about fabrication. It can be done at any place by just adding some more space and facility. You have to just build modules and integrate them. the most important of all is design.I want a robust design with maximum surface area per ton of weight to park and launch aircrafts with an ease. I want a very robust EW suite, Nuclear propulsion, electro magnetic launch, Ex SAm , Maitri protection, Torpedo decoy, LCA MK2 and new versions of Mig 29 if possible than stealth version, Hypersonic Brahmos with 600 KM + range. We have most of the technology and we will get all of them by 2020 (Except electron magnetic propulsion about which I am not very sure about.), If above features are incorporated than it can be an A** kicker like Nimitz of US. It will be a lion which will prey anything in sea.

India can make two bitter rival superpowers to work together on its project. We should display both US Russia flags together when we launch INS Vishal as a symbol of our soft power.
Jai ho teri Mata Russia

Something beyond Mig 29 I hope.

Yes, F 35 probably. We must strengthen the surface of A/C so as to enable us to operate Su33 or F35 from the deck.

I agree on the design aspect, syipyard also need to be looked in to during design stage, My point was CSL is the only shipyard which has the experience of building a career, more over they have huge experience in maintaining viraat......But making a career at that size is all together a different ball game .....

They have infra for that tonnage

The Dock No.2 of 255 x 43 x 9 M is available for building ships up to 1,10,000 DWT. This dock and the grand assembly area are served by two Gantry crane (300 T and 150 T) and two LLTT cranes (50 T).

Welcome to Cochin Shipyard : ISO 9001 Certified Shipyard of the Millenium

I think we need more than one Aircraft carrier of this class .... We should standardize the design and other aspects.

Carrier air group[edit]
The decision regarding the carrier air battle group still remains unclear because of the lack any official comment regarding the subject but most experts believe that it may consist of naval variant of Tejas Mk II as well as future 5th generation fighter jets like HAL AMCA and UCAVs like the DRDO AURA that the Indian Navy may choose to develop.
