BEIJING: Infantry forces from member countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) today started a joint training exercise in northwest China's Xinjiang.

The week-long exercise in Korla is aimed at improving combat ability, boost military communication and improve troops ability to deal with security threats, according to a military statement.

The participants will undergo training to test their physical ability and combat skills, it said.

The exercises will also improve cooperation, coordination and actual combat abilities.

In line with the "Shanghai Spirit" of mutual trust, mutual benefit, equality, consultation, respect for cultural diversity and pursuit of common development, members of the SCO have carried out 12 bilateral or multilateral training events since 2002, it noted.

northwest China's restiveXinjiang.

That's called prophecy in journalism. Why give Xinjiang a second name "restive" each time it appears on the news? By this account, can we call India the "restive" India because, Xinjiang is much more peaceful than most places in India?

What did Xinjiang do to be called "restive" like a perennial quality other than sporadic incidents related to separatism and extremism?

Why not call it "the booming Xinjiang" which is fast becoming the trade hub of the many spokes across Central Asia and Russia in the larger OBOR scheme?

Western media tactics is a form of art and science, really. We need to master them to be able to see through them. I see at times Indian and Japanese media also borrow the same tactics.

China's media does not play the same game.

News-making is not simply reporting the ground reality as it is. It is also blending it with one's point of view and interests. It is generating perceptions as well knowledge. It is in a sense giving people a sense of awareness of historical reality while also shaping their perceptions.

Making associations is one of the tactics. When you add "restive" to Xinjiang even when there is little or no connection with the reported reality, you create an impression. When you repeat it a hundred times, impression becomes a reality.

The West, ever since Goebbels, has mastered this. China needs to catch up.

Have to be extra conscious when reproducing Western news articles on national media. Otherwise, it is easy to unconsciously fall prey to those tactics.

I guess India, if not as much as China, is made target to such perception-creating news reporting.

What if Chinese or Indian media kept referring to the US as a place where racial tensions and now domestic power transition problems abound? Perhaps it is time to start doing so.

Looking forward to Pakistan armed forces participating in this event next year.

Pakistan is not in the habit of mixing sub-continent politics on international forums including SCO. This is something India indulges in.

What if Chinese or Indian media kept referring to the US as a place where racial tensions and now domestic power transition problems abound? Perhaps it is time to start doing so.

RussiaToday is already doing it.

Standard response from Western press to such an argument would be, "We have to nuanced when it comes to such sensitive coverage."

Fcuk the nuance when it comes to everyone else around the world and especially when you don't agree with someone. Then its all about "Human right organisation (which the West pays to be their mouthpiece) says X-Y-Z". Rinse and repeat.

You have no Idea, one thing I like about Chinese media is that they don't interfere too much in our domestic affairs. Yes there is the occasional mocking and warning but nothing like you see in the Western Media.

Exactly. The Western MSM goes all soft on the reporting of their regime soft bellies. It is incredible how much sugar coating is being done under the guise of expertise when the US faces such crises as Ferguson riots.

They call up on church leaders, police heroes, father of two little cute daughters and community leaders...

It is all for system survival.

When the subject is a developing country in crisis, they often scratch as much as they could to further bleed the wound.

A warning is present, but the irony does not exist.
Did you see the Chinese news more than I saw in the Chinese news?

The whole point of the SCO is to resolve these issues. Especially the borders between china-india-Pakistan. China-India-Pakistan alliance would be a very powerful counter to the west. seeing as both china and india/pakistan suffer so much in their hands in the recent past.

Alliance is a strong word. Practical cooperation suits much better to China's foreign diplomacy. At the moment, such existential collaboration appears to be only with Russia - and this is for a god reason.

India and Pakistan are regional matters, at most. China-Russia collaboration involves the entire globe.
