Indonesian New Capital City Design is Revealed

. . .
I find this one more interesting ...

The design winner in my opinion is more simple and has unique city center design, not too futuristic as well so it will not cost much money, this is why IMO they choose it, but according to the government there will be element from the second and third winner that will be used in the final design.

This is the third design. The third design has bigger road so I think this element will be chosen and the business district design is also IMO more grandeur.

The Indonesian Military (TNI) is set to established new military bases in North Penajam Paser regency in East Kalimantan, where the new capital will be located.

TNI commander Air Chief Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto revealed on Wednesday that the military would build new TNI, Army, Navy and Air Force headquarters near the center of government in the new capital to replace their Jakarta headquarters.

“The placement of TNI forces and other military bases will be in North Penajam Paser, alongside the Presidential Palace, the legislative complex and the offices of ministries, state institutions and foreign embassies,” Hadi told lawmakers as quoted by kompas.com.

Hadi said the new capital, which would be built on 180,000 hectares of land straddling the province’s North Penajam Paser and Kutai Kertanegara regencies, would require full defense protection from potential threats from land, sea and air.

The commander said the TNI would develop a strong defense system that could thwart missile, rocket and other attacks, security infiltration, cybersabotage and chemical, biological and nuclear threats.

“We will also create routes to mobilize the military through land, water and air as preparation for a contingency plan and VVIP evacuation routes,” Hadi said.

The President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo administration is currently finalizing a master plan for the new capital city, with a target of starting the development of what Jokowi has dubbed a “smart metropolis” by the end of next year.

The initial stage of the capital's development ─ estimated to cost up to Rp 466 trillion (US$32.7 billion) ─ will cover the construction of houses of worship, the new state palace and ministerial offices, which are expected to be completed by 2024. (dpk)

@Indos why no one care about the design of sewer system, sanitation, pollution handler, etc? The city layout won't be true like that forever, they will expand, and sooner or later can become very dense. That's why we need to plan how the city will handle pollution, sanitation, sewer system, etc first. so it won't destroy the nature around the city.
We shouldn't make 2nd Jakarta, should we?

This is a good post!

Did someone know, that many old cities have a good sewer system?

Many recently developed cities are forgotten to think about the sewer system in their plan.

Because eyes can fool us.

We see many modern and futuristic European and American cities, and we want it too.

But we just see it, not understand it.

The things that we don't see is the sewer system.

As well as the transportation system.

Talk about the transportation system it's not just about road, highway, and subway, but also about pedestrian too.

Many cities are designed as car-oriented, and it's wrong.

Just look at older European, Japanese, and Korean cities.

You can reach anywhere by just walking.

And walking is fun there.

i hope we indonesian can learn how to plan and build our new capital from other nation that defelop future modern city like in china, south korea, japan and midle east, take a look at this south korean new modern city, Songdo

They surely have planned something like that. There is also Master Degree for city planner that I believe the graduates from that study will be employed by the consultant of this project. One of my friend from instant has master degree from Dutch university on that field. Dutch have offered this master program scholarships since long time ago for Indonesians. My sister husband working in Jakarta planning also often comes to western countries to study about city planning from them.

Talking about the military aspect, according to one Indonesian analyst from CSIS, Kalimantan island will be second militarized island after Java if the relocation is realized. This fact surely will make Malaysia is a bit worried. The island is also closer to North Natuna Sea so it can give Indonesian military more advantage if some how there is conflict on that area. Ambalat block will also be more secured with the capital move.

Despite so, with this Covid 19 outbreak, I think the new capital city construction will be started after new administration comes in November 2024.

I don't know, but I won't be so optimize. If the next president is Jokowi Rival, this project is the same as dead.

Building an entire city from stretch is a project of century. You will save money and avoid corruption if making international bidding competitions. Ok I make ads.
Coteccons for example can do some nice works.

We need to wait to see whether it is true or not, but he has gotten parliament approval so it will be difficult to abandon the plan. Relocating the capital city to Kalimantan makes sense, the problem is only about when we really need to do it. The argumentation is only about the time, and not about the plan itself. And since the location has been decided and the task force for relocation has been set up, the realization for the plan I believe is much more certain now.

Any way, we need to see with this Covid 19 development, according to some expert, it is not easy to make sure next year we are all getting the vaccine. Not mentioning that whole world needs that vaccine badly as well, so there will be some problem whether we are going to have sufficient manufacturing for whole world population. This matter will cause economic growth cannot be optimal that later effect our state budget.

Not to mention Jokowi recent policy to lower corporate tax and abolish government portion on domestic gas price. He also make populist policy with his unemployment benefit program. That comes with the situation where many massive infrastructure program still need government support.

What I think will be done by Jokowi administration is environmental impact study and also design will be completed under his administration. Basic infrastructure like road, sewage, and sewer system could possibly be completed as well.
