Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The National Development Planning Board (Bappenas) is waiting for Chinas feasibility study on Indonesian fast train project.
The result of the feasibility study will determine decision on the "Shinkansen" class fast train project, a Bappenas deputy chief Dedy Supriyadi Priyatna.
The result of the feasibility study would be compared to one already held by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Dedy said after a regional Consultation at the Public Works Ministry here on Tuesday.
"We will see . If it turns out that it could be built with zero share of the government , why not?" he said.
In fact the government does not want to use fund from the state budget for the project, he said.
JICA, however, recommended the establishment of a special state company to be in charge of the Rp60 trillion project.
Jica said the state company will have a 74 percent share, the private sector 10 percent and the government 16 percent of the project.
Dedy said the final decision is on President Joko Widodo and a number of related ministries how to finance the project.
"The President will discuss with the transport minister, finance minister and chief economics minister, which of the two studies (Chinese or Japan) is to be the choice," he said.
Earlier Transport Minister Ignasius Jonan insisted that the "shinkansen" project had to be fully handled by the private sector.
Fast train should be operated commercially by the private sector, he said, adding state budget fund could be used for infrastructure projects in backward areas , frontier areas, disaster prone areas and exterior and interior areas, Ignasius said .
"That is what is more important unless the government changes its policy," he added.
Japan already handed over a grant of US$15 million for the feasibility study on the "shinkansen" class fast train project during the previous government.
The fast train will cover the distance between Jakarta - Bandung in 34 minutes and Jakarta-Surabaya in 2.5 hours.(*)
