The American doctrine that it's ok to bomb other countries if you invoke the word "terrorism" is a very dangerous one. Sovereign nations have the right to protect themselves, US president-elect Barack Obama said on Monday, when asked about India...

"If the US can bomb Pakistan whenever it feels like by using the justification of terrorism, why can't India?"

during his election campaign — of bombing terrorist camps in Pakistan if there was actionable evidence and Islamabad refused to act on it.

The Times goes on to note that Obama carefully caveated his remarks, noting that India should only act unilaterally if the association is proved beyond a doubt and if Pakistan doesn't deal with it themselves.

Nonetheless, this is a particularly ominous development. US bombing and incursions into Pakistan are already destabilizing the country. The US and its allies believe that the Pakistani military and intelligence services have become unreliable instruments, using them to crack down on Pakistanis at the behest of outsiders has caused a great deal of dissent.

Pakistan will doubtless do something, but whether it will be sufficient for the Indians is another question. But I can think of nothing more likely to either cause a war or cause Pakistan to implode than India bombing inside its territory. The long history of distrust between the two countries would make this the equivalent of Russia bombing a terrorist camp in the US.

The American doctrine that it's ok to bomb other countries if you invoke the word "terrorism" is a very dangerous one. Combined with the breaking up of Serbia, it is an assault on the over 350 year old idea of Westphalian internal sovereignty. The consequences could be war between Pakistan and India, just as Georgia's breakup by the Russians was justified by the example of Serbia.

Bombing is not a national pass time which it might seem given the ease with which the worded is branded around these days by everyone . It's the very last resort.

I hope Pakistan will try to establish control on non-state elements which could be responsible for funding and logistics and India will simultaneously set up Homeland security and make itself impregnable against adventure seekers and come down hard on extremists within it's own territory.

War is not child's play - Only troop mobilization on two fronts (Jaiselmer and Kashmir) can cost pak and India thousands of crores , and I've not even gone to the actual war scenario here.

yaah try to solve ur internal matters and extremist elements and ur state terrorism, ur govt which harbours and support extremist hindu groups and ur hindu nationalist party BJP, the criminals like narindar modi r roaming freely on indian soil???

America is only bombing some of the borders areas. We are giving an impression that it is bombing the whole country.

India must remember that it is not USA.Even usa cannot think of bombing the whole country.

India knows Pakistan's capabilities and alliances, it would be an even match. No one likes to go to war against an evenly matched opponent, not unless Hitler is on the other side, and at this point two elected governments are in power.

India and Pakistan Should both stop Fighting "PROXY WARS" as this is not the Way Real Men Fight.

India Should stop her activities from Afghanistan and Tajikistan In Pakistani areas like FATA and especially Balochistan and in return Pakistan Must stop Aiding Militants in Kashmir and Pakistan should give more support to political parties of Jammu & Kashmir Like Huriyat and This is my Personnel opinion that Pakistan would gain more politically as compared to military tactics in Kashmir.

Bring it on!
We've got some nice toys for you guys.

* External affairs minister says India awaits Pakistan’s response to demand for ‘fugitives’
* Says ‘difficult’ to carry on peace process

By Iftikhar Gilani

NEW DELHI: Indian External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee ruled out on Tuesday an armed conflict with Pakistan after the Mumbai terrorist attacks, stating forcefully that “nobody is talking about military action”.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of the launch of an India-Arab Co-operation Forum, Mukherjee did not comment directly on US president-elect Barack Obama’s remarks that India has a right to protect itself.

“What will be done, time will show and you will come to know,” he said.

‘Fugitives’: He said India ‘will await’ Pakistan’s response to a demarche protest note issued on Monday. “Now, we have in our demarche asked (for) the arrest and handover of those persons who are settled in Pakistan and who are fugitives of Indian law,” Mukherjee said.

“There are lists of about 20 persons. (These) lists are sometimes altered and this exercise is going on and we have renewed it in our demarche,” he said.

But later, in an interview with NDTV, Mukherjee said every country had the right to protect its territorial integrity and take appropriate action when necessary.

Asked if that meant he was not ruling out military action, he said: “I am not making any comment on the military option, what I am saying is that every sovereign country has the right to protect its territorial integrity and take appropriate action and when it feels necessary to take that appropriate action.”

Peace process: He also said that it had become ‘difficult’ to continue the peace process with Pakistan ‘in this atmosphere’.

His comments followed a meeting of India’s security cabinet to discuss a strategy after the Mumbai attacks.

Meanwhile, senior Indian Foreign Ministry officials gave a briefing to envoys of 12 countries, citizens of which were killed in the Mumbai attacks.
