India's new shipping route through Bangladesh
India begins work on new shipping routes through Bangladesh to connect West Bengal with northeastern India

India has begun work on a new shipping route through Bangladesh to connect West Bengal with India's northeast. India's Ports, Shipping and Shipping Minister Sarbananda Sonwal made the announcement on Saturday (January 6th).

He made the remarks while addressing the "Brahmaputra River Conclave" at the ongoing Northeast Festival on Saturday (January 6th). This information has been informed in a report of Economic Times.

Sarbananda Sonwal said, “Cargo and passenger ships carrying goods from Assam and North East will be connected to Haldia in West Bengal via Bangladesh through this route. Work has already started to widen and dredge the waterways of Barak and Brahmaputra rivers for the passage of cargo ships. Cargo and passenger ships from Assam and the Northeast will be connected to Haldia via Bangladesh. ”

He said that not only Brahmaputra but also other rivers including Manas, Dhansindri and Ais need to be developed. This will make the northeastern markets more vibrant.

"The eight states must come together," he said. We have to work for the development of the people of this region. ”

On the one hand they are damming these rivers every ten miles to withdraw water upstream in Assam, WB and NE, which brings navigability and draught downstream in Bangladesh to a historic low.

Then on the other hand these Modi-BJP idiots want to have shipping routes upstream to Brahmaputra and other rivers through Bangladesh, and issue public-pleasing proclamations to that effect in India on a regular basis. Like Bangladesh was their Baap-ka Zameendari and we will do what we are told from India.

What book says India's interest is our interest....

No amount of money to Bangladesh from poorer neighbor India will suffice and of course Kanjoosis want this for free....

You can't have your cake and eat it too.

These two options ARE mutually exclusive, Either/or, but not both.

NorthEastern markets in India will become vibrant only as a market for Bangladeshi goods and as a supplier of raw inputs for Bangladesh industries.

The NE is Bangladesh' hinterland and it will remain that way.

It's as plain as the shindoor on your forehead, everyone can see this.

A great project between 2 Allies...... In fact it will be a boost to tourism as well..... So many Indians would love to travel from West India to far east India through waterways from BD..... I myself would love it....

And what benefits BD gets from these love-India activities?

May be India needs this route, to transmit retreating Indian armies, once they are defeated and routed by China in Arunachal Pradesh and other NE states.
You are very right about your assumptions that BD may not allow Indian Army troops to pass through BD land on their mission to Indian NE.

But it is possible that BD people, if not the govt of that time, may allow the fleeing IA troops through the BD land. After all, human suffering is very difficult to witness for our people.

No doubt that the GoI is arranging for a rainy day like this by asking BD to open its water routes.

It seems to me, that they want to ensure Bangladesh does not withdraw them the privilege to use these channels. You know, in case of a conflict with China. These dams will be the sword hanging on Bangladesh's head if it tries to side with China and deny India these alternative paths around its so called Chicken neck.
You may be right - advanced military logistics planning.
Its the other way round.

Exactly the reason why India has all these dams built. Deny them the access and either your river go dry or may be flooded.

There is no worry about India flooding us in the rainy season because the flood gates are open at that time.
]
There is also no worry in winter because Chinese troops cannot move over the Himalayas at that time. The mountains are all under 100 m (?) deep snow/ ice.

India cannot make more floods in BD. Its own areas then will go underwater.

India cannot cause also more droughts in winter because large reservoirs are needed to contain water and India has none.

India can redirect the water certainly. Few additional canals and this water will find its way into densely packed eastern UP and WB.

Please say specifically which rivers can go upward the slope?

Nothing.

All Bangladeshis should protest against this project and any trade relations with India.

Bangladesh should focus on BRI and improving trade with China.
Tourism and more investment by Indian giants like TATA, Adanis, reliance etc....

Why don't you Indians first invest in some toilets in India.

Bangladesh is richer than India and does not need Indian investments.
