What's new

India's limb-lengthening industry is booming — and completely unregulated

So, this ad for Indians ?

He's a moron too to do such an ad.

Can you prove systematic discrimination in any of these cases? That other people of short stature were refused the job? Or that they were told to their face that their height was the problem with their hiring?

What more proof do you need?

- "I was just 4-foot-6-inches. People used to make fun of me and I couldn't get a job," she told the Guardian. "Now my younger sister is doing it too."

- Not unlike the popular practice of skin-lightening in India (bleach cream is a $500 million industry) this cosmetic trend can arguably find its roots in neocolonialism, given Indians tend to be shorter than Caucasians.

Indian religion even discriminates between castes. This is just a minor thing and your replies illustrate this very clearly.

.
That is not what many people who perform such extreme surgeries say. They are usually brainwashed and forced by their surrounding to take such extreme measures.

.

So Kaitlyn Jenner (formerly Bruce Jenner) was forced into turning himself into a woman through the society's actions is what you're saying..
Wonder how the rest of us residing in the US havent felt this pressure.

No, that is what you're saying. There is a world of difference between Kaitlyn Jenner and an Indian teenager who feels the need to use white skin cream to look fairer or has to opt for a surgery to increase her height to feel accepted within the society.

What I'm really saying is:

- "I was just 4-foot-6-inches. People used to make fun of me and I couldn't get a job," she told the Guardian. "Now my younger sister is doing it too."

How is this proof?!! At most its an insecure woman blaming her environment rather than her own insecurity and complex...thats it..

No, it is you who is in denial and defending a crooked society that you are part of.

Like I said, you reside in a society where a religion blatantly discriminates based on caste. This is understandably peanuts to you.

Both are individual decisions based on their own insecurity...

Society did not force them to do anything...they did this to themselves. There are a lot of people who are dark skinned in India and are proud of their skin color, height and whatever else god gave them..
Then there are others who are insecure and make individual choices to get rid of their complexes...
Both exist and both are individual choices..
One cannot make blanket statements about these things..

That is BS and you know it. You live in an unjust society where skin color, caste and the height of a person are a deciding factor for success. It is openly propagated on your TV screen.

So this isnt about some fake concern for humanity...
just another India bashing opportunity for you..
Got it..
Your agenda is quite clear...

Hey, a fact is a fact. You can't deny that in India a caste hierarchy exists which is part of the Hindu religion. Tell me if I'm wrong.

Why should I be surprised when people are forced to change their height and skin color? Undoubtedly, one influences the other.

.
This is extreme. This is what happens to societies that are dealing with a severe identity crisis. They lack self-confidence. They question their culture, their religion, their skin color, their way of life and now also their height.

Indians have identity crisis? Rich coming from people born on the banks of Indus thinking they're not Indians!:lol:

Ohh the irony!

Btw do you think some weirdos in India represent 1.2 billion Indians, their culture and religion? Typical Islamo-fascist scum!

I mean your opinion on this matter is inconsequential...as is my acceptance or denying of it..
We look at worlds through different prisms..

Caste has nothing to do with skin color or height...this is your first mistake in this line of argument.

Would you like me to list examples in India proving success stories in each of those conditions you highlighted above?
Ask and you shall receive

We are ethnically a very rich and diverse nation. From Pakhtuns, Baloch to Sindhis and Punjabis. India may have some similarities at the border, but it stop there. Pakistan shares its history with the CAR region. So much for our similarities.

The irony is that discrimination against the lower caste is religiously institutionalized in India. The Hindu belief teaches to hate and abuse the untouchable lower caste hierarchy. This is well documented fact.

It is understandable why Indians have difficulty owning up to their discriminatory beliefs.

We Pakistanis are thankful that we have our own land. The two state theory has been justified.

yes and they even make stupid advertizements

Just like you people put that white cream on your face to look Caucasian.

I mean your opinion on this matter is inconsequential...as is my acceptance or denying of it..

It does. Many of the problems discussed in this debate can be traced back to the various backward and outdated traditions of the Indian culture and its society. The biggest problem is the caste divide in India. Anyhow, we can agree to disagree.

Lol majority of Pakistanis (Punjabis, Sindhis and Muhajirs) are Indian. That's more than 80% of the total population.

Bullcr*p! Do they have hierarchy? Yes but even that is done away with in Hindu reforms that took place in 18th century and it's illegal to discriminate against someone based on their caste. Hinduism preaches hate and abuse? Please prove this or I'll be inclined to report your post for racism.

Also, if you were to ask anyone in Netherlands about which religion preaches hatred and abuse against women? Their answer will surprise you ;)

You are arguing needlessly.
This chap, Dalit, is only posting because he wants to post this line over and over again:

"Like I said, you reside in a society where a religion blatantly discriminates based on caste. This is understandably peanuts to you."

Go through his older posts. His self esteem seems to depend on trying to put down India and Hinduism while putting up Pakistanis and Islam. And you can bet that like most other Pakistanis, when asked in Europe where he is from , he replies 'India' and says 'Im not a terrorist'.
