US special envoy to Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad called on Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar and conveyed that Washington welcomed India’s engagement in regional and international efforts in war-torn Afghanistan.

According to a report published by Indian news agency – ANI, the US special envoy spoke on the urgency of resolving the political crisis in Afghanistan and the importance of Afghan leaders forming an inclusive Government.

Khalilzad in his tweet said he had reached out to Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and discussed the Afghan peace process and talked about the current political crisis in Afghanistan and the importance of forming an inclusive Government.

Khalilzad added that he had told the Indian minister that the US welcomed Indian engagement in regional and international efforts for lasting peace in Afghanistan and that the US is committed to a sustained dialogue with India on the matter.

The two officials also talked on the prisoner swap agreement between the Afghan Government and the Taliban. As part of the US-Taliban peace deal, the Afghanistan Government has to release 5000 prisoners while the Taliban has to release 1000 for the negotiations to start. So far the Afghan Government has released 661 terrorists while the insurgent group has freed 20 captives.

The envoy added that the two discussed the importance of a speedy prisoner swap and supported the reduction in violence and the start of the negotiations between the two warring factions. Khalilzad also said that the two officials discussed the immediate and long term impact of coronavirus.

Jaishankar in return tweeted that Khalilzad had updated him on the recent developments in Afghanistan. The Indian External Affairs Minister also said that he had shared the Indian perspective and told his US counterpart that India’s historical friendship with close ties to Afghanistan will guide its Afghan policy.

The outreach by the US’ special envoy has come at a time of growing concern in India about the escalation in violence in Afghanistan post the signing of the peace deal and also in the backdrop of a recent six-nation discussion on the Afghan crisis, where New Delhi was sidelined.

India is particularly apprehensive about the presence of Pakistan sponsored terror groups such as Al-Qaeda, Laskar-e-Taiba, and Jaish-e-Mohamad in Afghanistan. Taliban’s unwillingness to disassociate itself from these terror groups has worried India as they have frequently targetted Delhi’s interests both in Afghanistan and India.

According to a report by a section of Indian media, Afghan President Hamid Karzai has welcomed America’s gesture to include India in the ongoing negotiation process. The Afghan President who met with Indian envoy to Afghanistan Vinay Kumar told the Hindu that he had always hoped and supported India’s involvement in the peace process from the beginning keeping in view the traditional friendship between the two nations for a sovereign and united Afghanistan with a strong Government.

Does Ashraf Ghani have corona virus infection?

No, that won't happen. We will see in a year or two, Taliban would change their name, probably something more meaningful, more functional and mundane.

There would be a Pakistan centric coalition government, with a very agreeable (to all) president/ ameer. We will see.

Close ties? What are the “close ties”? Plant terrorism in neighboring countries? You don’t call it “close ties” because India is clearly using Afghanistan and the day is not far when Afghanistan will be backstabbed and ‘unfriended’.

Pakistan must understand this relationship. Afghanistan has always played a dirty role. It has behaved more as an enemy.
In all of Pakistans wars, did afghanistan ever send its troops to assist Pakistan? The bhai group should answer that.

Even the arabs despite their differences helped each other during 67, 74.
The only solution is to divide afghanistan or make sure a pro pak govt sets in.

Puktoons are a nice people but easy to manipulate, so were being used by different powers, Indian influence will improve their lives.
Hahaha, pukhtoons are the most anti-indian people throughout the whole world, I know, I am from a pukhtoon area bordering the tribal areas.

All of the foot soldiers of the TTP were misguided due to the inconsistencies in their religious beliefs and their weakness for religion got exploited.

People of Afghanistan (specially pushtoons) never had any say in the decisions of their recent-ish governments..

Pukthoons

Pakthoons and Baloch are allies of India. The whole world knows this.Salam brother.
Situation on the ground is quite different, and to actually verify this, let's wait and see which side Afghans and pashtoons of Pakistan side and fight alongside with in the upcoming Indo Pak conflicts...

Those closer ties involve trade, economics if the first thing that comes to your mind if terrorism that's not our fault. You grew snakes in your backyard, it's bound to bite you eventually. Most of the Taliban infested areas are bordering Pakistan and Pakistan is the biggest supporters of the Taliban. India is not using Taliban, the most India does is provide support for ANA, NDS which is quite natural given the security threat Pak-Taliban ring poses.

Parliament of Afghanistan already built by India and as you know, Pushtoon unity across the border between Pushtunistan and Afghanistan proper will always be there, one reason why afghanistan has not acknowledged the durrant line. It wont be long before the same might be annexed by the new Afghan govt.Time will tell, but historical ties cannot be denied.

How many farts are in your mind at the present moment just building a library or a ugly parliament building is barely shows any influence of your kind in Afghanistan focus on the pajeet infested hell hole called India first

You really want to go down the history road? Just Watch any of your Bollywood movie where Afghanistan and pahstoons are playing the leading roles. As for the parliament it'd be used in full swing to pass resolutions favoring Pakistani interests
