Is FMBT confirmed yet?

No,not as of now since the Army itself remains confused till date, whether to go for a Mk3 of Arjun MBT or rather discard the Arjun line altogether and go for a radically different green field FMBT design.

125mm L52 and 4 men crew despite the autoloader,doesn't make much of a sense now,does it??!!I wonder whether it was made by some fanboy with no actual knowledge or understanding about how an MBT roles!!

Nice compact design with appropriate armor cover (front, sides) and decent weight category. Funny thing is the inclusion of 125mm gun replacing the home made rifled 120mm gun.

Overall, this design is much better than arjunxx

Yeah,but it will definitely be much heavier than 50 tons and most certainly won't mount a 125mm gun due to obvious reasons.But the overall turret geometry looks good,at least better than what we have on Arjun with partially protected turret sides and placement of GMS.

Highly likely.And who would be the ones responsible - you guess it right,the Army!!They haven't even managed to decide what they want from this thing since 2008!!I'm telling you man,if the ones in decision making do not get their acts together in time,it's yet another disaster in the waiting,it would be the Arjun saga all over again.

More similar to the Leopard2 than the T90. That's good.

The turret looks more similar to Altay than Leopard 2 (I guess A5 onwards you mean,due to the distinctive 'wedge' shaped add on armor on the turret front) to me.

I talked about this with a few people and they said it is impossible to have 4 man crew with a auto loader and yet keep the weight down, they said it might have been a mistake in printing. The army prefers a 4 man crew but in a 50ton tank which is not quite possible so it might boil down to a 3 man crew(a two man crew is also evaluated but the risk factor is high, they want to use as many mature technologies as possible and not radical high risk stuff).

Some of the technologies being evaluated for use in FMBT:
1.Health and usage monitoring(including barrel wear and tear).
2.Real time condition monitoring.(this was the primary agenda at the conference NCCM 2014 conducted at CVRDE,I was also present).

3.Mine resistant tracks.
4.2D or 3D CCD cameras all over the vehicle whose images are fused together for better situational awareness. These cameras will provide common inputs to driver, commander, gunner but with different interpretations. This is in early concept stage, not sure if it will be a part of the final design.
5.Internet of things a concept Abdul kalam himself recommended to be looked into.

125mm smoothbore will be homemade. The Indian T-90s use ARDE designed OFB made smoothbores after Russia denied the technology. This was adopted for interoperability as huge amounts of T-90 ammunition that will be available and also 125mm ammo are better available for import than 120mm rifled ammo.

Yeah,heard it from Kunal.He said DRDO was looking to shift a version of the Cockpit NG with full screen digital FCS with big touch screen LCDs for the gunner and commander's stations for increased situational awareness.I also heard that there is talks about developing a 2 men crew version with unmanned turret,sporting a 140mm smooth barrel gun and very thick armor over glacis plate at reduced weight of 40-45 ton (due to weight saved from usage of the smaller unmanned turret). It seems like DRDO is trying to keep all the options open since they are not sure what the Army is gonna ask for.
