India's First Indigenous Ocean Research Ship Launched

to be launched

SURAT: Private shipbuilding
firm, ABG Shipyard Ltd, is all set
to launch the first vessel designed for the oceanographic research. 'RV Sindhu Sadhana', the first indigenous vessel specially developed for Department of Scientific Industrial Research (DSIR), will be launched on Tuesday. RV Sindhu Sadhana will be pressed into service to unravel mysteries of seas and discover hidden resources in ocean with the view to meet the growing demand of minerals and food.

The vessel is 80 metres long with a gross displacement of 4,170 tonne and maximum draft of 5.0 metre. The vessel has a top speed in excess of 14 knots and that it will have accommodation for 57 persons
including 21 scientists.

ABG Shipyard recently delivered
the second in the series of the
pollution control vessel (PCV) to
the Indian Coast Guard. The
oceanographic research vessel
will be launched by SK Brahmachari, director general of Council of Scientific and
Industrial Research (CISR) and
secretary DSIR, ministry of science and technology,Government of India.

DSIR aims to promote R&D by
the industries, support a larger
cross-section of small and
medium industrial units to
develop modern globally
competitive technologies of high commercial potential,
catalyze faster commercialization of lab-scale
R&D, enhance the share of
technology intensive exports in
overall exports, strengthen industrial consultancy &
technology management
capabilities and establish user-
friendly information network to facilitate scientific and industrial research in the country.

Official sources said the vessel has a capability to conduct oceanographic research in the field of physics, chemistry, biology, geology and geographic. The vessel is equipped with latest data acquisition system and modern
laboratories.

Subas Gantayat, vice president HR and administration, ABG Shipyard, said, "DSIR will have the first indigenously designed vessel in its fleet. The shipyard has so far built and delivered more than 157 ships of different complexities for domestic and international customers."

this is a really awesome news for 2 reasons-
1.this the first indigenous Ocean research ship for finding minerals n doing other research work.

2. Its build by a ABG shipyard which is a private shipyard

we should increase our expenditure on research as we r currently spending peanuts in comparision to other nations

It does not require rocket science to understand that how will u make bigger discoveries if u won't increase expenditure on research...

Anyways its a good step forward
Hope we start doing more expenditure on research as there is a lot of potential in our country n the oceanic region around it

Un-Effing-believable!!! One day India is attacked for being the "world's biggest arms importer" the next it is being attacked for making too much indigenously FFS!!


Just shows there is no pleasing some and that no matter what some will always find a new angle to attack India.
