Kashmir is the real theatre of unspeakable violence and moral corrosion that can spin us into violence and nuclear war at any moment. To prevent that from happening, the conflict in Kashmir has to be addressed and resolved. That can only be done if Kashmiris are given a chance to freely and fearlessly tell the world what they are fighting for and what they really want. (Arundhati Roy)

It’s been a year since, the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) government revoked Kashmir’s special status under ArticleS 370 and 35A of the Constitution and divided the State into two Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh on 5 August 2019, the most far-reaching political move on the disputed region in nearly 70 years. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi demonstrated to the world that Kashmir is potentially the most dangerous place on earth as he stripped Jammu and Kashmir of statehood and along with its special status, and residents’ rights. The decision to scrap the legal entity of the state also leads to the abrogation of Section 35A. The section secured the erstwhile state residents’ privileges to seven million Kashmiris, but gets dissolved.

Due to this blood-drenched saga, Indian Muslims became the most vulnerable people on earth who have been left without political representation and without a voice.

However, New Delhi’s decision was widely criticised, as tensions prevail over the constitutional autonomy of the disputed region. Once again the BJP managed to unleash its unique brand of cruelty.

The path taken by the BJP to link Kashmir with India is beyond any justification and is not going to work in any way. Especially since BJP came into power in 2014 with an expansionist agenda, it is actively involved in different crimes and has often violated the sovereignty of many states. The World must react to the Hindutva terror before it is too late.

So far there has been strong opposition by Kashmiris who have refused to accept this new normalcy been cooked in the BJP’s kitchen. Seven million Kashmiris were barricaded in their homes. Kashmiri voices are ignored by mainstream media and channels, and blatantly suppressed by Indian right wing groups who spread a gospel of hatred that is both anti-Muslim and anti-Kashmiri.

In the lead-up to the move, Kashmir is one of the most or perhaps the most densely militarized zone in the world. What India has done in Kashmir over the last 30 years is unforgivable. An estimated 70,000 people, civilians, militants and security forces have been killed in the conflict. Thousands have been “disappeared,” hundreds of teenagers have been blinded by the use of pellet-firing shotguns and tens of thousands have passed through torture chambers. The most cruel effects of an occupation that has lasted decades are impossible to describe in an account as short as this.

The BJP government is forgetting the fact that Kashmir is a nuclear flashpoint and the move to abrogate Articles 370 and 35A was in total disregard of international norms. Indian PM Narendra Modi not only endangered the immediate neighbourhood, but also raised the ante for the entire world. Also, with the obliteration of Article 370 and blacking out the communication in the Valley, the Indian government risked a high-intensity insurgency in an already volatile state of Indian-Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

Undoubtedly, the annihilation of Kashmir’s special status laid out in the Indian Constitution is a paradigm shift. Sadly, the ground realities in Indian-Occupied Kashmir now are a lot graver than a year before. Modi’s move is consistent with his Hindutva-driven fascist policies that target Muslims and other minorities, with the ultimate aim of achieving the Hindu Rashtriya of the RSS– a state meant only for Hindus.

Not surprisingly, such actions by the BJP violate the UN Security Council resolutions which mandate the exercise of the right of self-determination of the Kashmiri people under UN auspices to enable them to decide whether to accede to Pakistan or India. The flames of hate that arose out of Modi’s fascist agenda have not only engulfed India but its relations with Pakistan may also get into troubled waters. Such actions also fall under the fundamental objective to change the Indian-sponsored negative narrative that equates the Kashmiri struggle with terrorism, whereas the Kashmiri people’s struggle was and will remain a legitimate struggle under international law for their right of self-determination against illegal occupation by Indian forces.

Moreover, human rights courts should examine the BJP government’s “disastrous” policies in the wake of the unconstitutional dismantling of Kashmir’s special status. These episodes of violence and massacres against the Muslims are nothing new. The 2002 Gujrat pogrom slaughtering Muslims in broad daylight continued for months, when Modi was Chief Minister of that State. He has ridden to power on that legacy.

Sadly, these mass human rights violations do not end here. During the pandemic that hit all the world Muslims again came under the mischief of BJP torture. They were branded on twitter trends like #CoronaJihad and as “human bombs”. Muslims were dehumanized and were denied admission to hospitals and boycotted. Such horror shows still go on, which has a similarity to the tactics used during the rise of the Third Reich, when Nazis accused Jews of being spreaders of disease and carriers of typhus.

It’s ironic that to become a superpower in the region or to be its policeman, Modi has been successful in hiding the injustice. The Indian government’s rejection of the 2019 UN report on human rights in Kashmir shows it is unwilling to confront its own human rights failures.

Though India claims to be the “Largest Democracy in the World”, it failed to maintain harmony among diverse ethnicity and various religious groups.

India for thousand years were either getting a beating from Muslims or were being ruled by Muslims. And for more than hundred years by british. They needs to understand that 73 years of freedom and power doesn't mean it can't get reversed.

best thing for pakistan is to listen to china and forget commitments to uncle sam. nothing comes free but this is our chance.china can activate entire lac before indian attack and intelligence reports pointing out towards two front. pompeo probably begged fm qureshi not to intervene. it's our decision now. do we want kashmir? do we want to die for this cause?

Modi know how to play domestic political fight against Congress, by using Hindutva nationalism. But lack of the insight of international politics.
IK offered olive branch in 2018 just after he came into power. Modi rejected.
China tried to mend the ties in the trilateral relationship, Modi rejected as well.

Modi jump on Trump's bandwagon, one sided foreign policy placed India no choices between Great Power Politics.

Now India under BJP/Modi is the prey of US, and US eat flesh only.

My Pakistani friends, I am not pushing Pakistan into the war against India.

But can Pakistan have peace with Hindtva India under BJP?

If, just if there is a large scale war in Ladakh, and India Mountain Divisions are wiped out, what should Pakistan do?

I think at least Pakistan Army need to push forward to watershed, so that water will not be diverted, and national security greatly strengthened.

Kashmir issue (the internal one) is on the path of being resolved as far as India is concerned. The gun-toters are being/will be eliminated and the ones who want to respect the law of the land can live and prosper and enjoy the fruits of democracy, freedom and development. Will take another 5 - 10 years but so be it. The frustrated cats can scratch the pole as much as they want.

Seems the ground situation is opposite to what you claimed and BJP propaganda narratives.

This's Kashmir, curfew for one damn year.

I find unconscionable how folks like yourself justify oppression like this. See how you’d like a curfew imposed on you for an extended period of time. Do you think you’ll win these people over with curfews, pallet guns etc?

You guys think you have a tough leader and new direction for a stronger country, you don’t yet know how wrong you are. Communalism, jingoism, erosion of civil rights, we’ve seen some of this in our history. It will surely haunt you in the future.

What oppression? What rights has a common Kashmiri been denied? They are free to choose their society chairman, sarpanch, corporator, MLA, MP and the PM of the country. which is unheard of even in many Islamic countries. The victim card has run it's course, the religious fundamentalism, radicalization and intolerance of some can't be the reason which the majority is to be held hostage. In the past when you guys shouted zulm zulm Kashmiris where actually were a pampered lot with subsidies, geelanis going around in Land Cruiser and Article 370 and 35A being examples. If they have got a good spanking then the Kashmiri problem would have been solved by now. I hope the Kashmiri the nutcases one now understand what they have got or if GOI turns the heat further they will lose that too. From Statehood with special powers they are down to UT next would be Army rule.
They just don't like you. Any problem?

You're absolutely right brother. Hopefully, both our borders will become secure in the near future.

Nehru himself said in the Parliament that Article 370 and Article 35A are temporary provision of the Constitution which would fade with time ("ye ghiste ghiste ghis jaayegi"). Today Kashmiris don't have any valid reason other than religious bigotry to indulge in anti-India activities and violence. We can very well take care of this religious bigotry as well (China style) and you can have your "ask the Kashmiris for permission" and "plebiscite" nonsense as well then.
Nehru had said: “Article 370 is part of certain transitional provisional arrangements. It is not a permanent part of the Constitution. It is a part as long as it remains so. As a matter of fact, it has been eroded, if I may use the word, and many things have been done in the last few years which have made the relationship of Kashmir with the Union of India very close.”

Nehru continued: “There is no doubt that Kashmir is fully integrated. The fact that there may be some special matters attached to it does not come in the way of integration at all, and I gave as an instance that in Kashmir citizens of India other than those of Kashmir are not allowed to buy land or own property. I think it is a very good rule which should continue, because Kashmir is such a delectable place that moneyed people will buy up all the land there to the misfortune of the people who live there.”

All you say is blah blah religious bigotry blah blah terrorism, without knowing that Kashmiris are simply angry over Delhi's broken promises, time after time after time.

Kashmiris have very valid reasons to be angry with Delhi, for unilaterally removing their central defining rights within the state of Kashmir (albeit "eroded"; it retained some useful function but even that thin veil of trust has been thrown off by Delhi).

This is the harsh reality of a colossal disenfranchisement of a people as the underlying cause of their struggle, that doesn't quite tally with all the big talk of religious bigotry and terrorism.

Now scoot off and bother someone else with your works of fiction.

How would army rule be different to what the Kashmiris are enduring at this time.
