I'm ashamed at reading the first dozen or so posts on this thread.
India was - unlike Pakistan - not founded as a theocratic state. There's a strict separation of religion and state in the constitution and thanks to Nehru, the initial fabric of the country conformed to that ideal. His daughter was dumb in many ways but she too had the wisdom to not tinker with this.
A successful foreign policy in relation to Pakistan-sponsored terrorism is one thing but the championing of right wing nationalist sentiment is the last thing we need. I perceive that this government - that I voted for - is encouraging a right wing attitude which will hurt all of us in the long run, maybe even the short run.
The draft refugee policy favouring hindus is foolish and undermines the character of the country. There's simply no basis to give such preferential treatment and I think the government will land up with an embarrassment in the supreme court if they go through with this.
