Indian students half of China's in US varsities, says envoy

China has the highest number of students going to the United States for higher studies every year while India is at the second place with almost half the count, an USIEF senior official said here today.

"As per the statistics, India is number 2 behind China. Going by the last academic year's figure, there are around 1,66,000 Indian students studying in the US while China has 3,20,000 students approximately," US Consulate General, Public Affairs Officers and Director of the America Centre, Jamie Dragon said today.

"China surpassed India about six years ago and the gap (between the number of Indian and Chinese students going to the US) is increasing," Dragon added.

Not easy to pass Gaokao and get into Chinese universities, we call many of them 高考失败者 losers of GaoKao, foreign universities don't have a draconian requirement as long as you can afford the money.

Not all of them, but many of them. Now almost all Chinese urban families can afford sending their children to study abroad, but finding jobs in China after they come back is hard. Many of them become 海待 https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/海待

Such loser common study in undergraduate course in US. The good students complete undrgraduate, PhD and even MS, then go to US for higher level. I guess indian are similar.

Indeed they are. There are less opportunities in Science in India compared to US.
