An army jawan shot dead five of his colleagues and killed himself on Wednesday night in central Kashmir's Ganderbal district, an official said Thursday morning.
The deaths of the jawans took place in an army camp, said spokesperson Lt Col NN Joshi. An army court of inquiry will investigate the deaths. Details about the incident would emerge later.
Army and paramilitary troops posted in Kashmir and other 'disturbed' areas of the country have often complained about adverse working conditions. Factors like long working hours and denial of leave are often blamed for soldiers going berserk.
