'Why should we give Pakistanis a chance?'

Pakistani artistes and singers have performed in India for a long time. Abhijeet

Singer Abhijeet recently protested this phenomenon. 'Why should we allow these people into our country to perform when we are not welcome in their country?' he asked in a letter to the Government of India.

Along with bhajan singer Anoop Jalota, ghazal artiste Jagjit and playback singers Kumar Sanu and Jaspinder Narula, Abhijeet asked the government to ban Pakistani artistes from performing in India.

"We don't play cricket because our people are being killed by them. Why should we allow their singers to perform here?" he asks Associate Editor/Chief Correspondent Syed Firdaus Ashraf.

I was hurt when I heard about the atrocities Indian artistes face in Pakistan. Our artistes are banned there -- from performing as well as on television.

One can't even attend a wedding without them [Pakistani authorities] being suspicious that you might perform there.

But Pakistani artistes are welcomed in India; they make money. Some even settle down here.

I ask that our government should consider the dignity of our artistes. There are Indian Sufi singers, ghazal singers and pop singers here as well who do not get a chance.

Why should we give Pakistanis a chance?

[Ghazal singer] Jagjit Singh was sent back to India when he wanted to perform in Pakistan. We gave much respect to [playback singer] Noorjehan, felicitated her, but Lataji [Mangeshkar] was denied a visa to Pakistan.

We [Indians] cannot play cricket with them. We have no relations with them. But they seek refuge in our culture.

Lucky Ali performed in Pakistan three years ago. Lataji refused the Pakistan Cricket Board invitation to perform.

She must have refused because she was denied the visa earlier. How can she go there again? It is humiliating.

You tell me, how many Indian singers are shown on Pakistani television? None. Why should our channels show them?

First of all, in pakistan you get all the Indian channels, none of the indian channels are banned, indian artists are welcomed in india. In fact Pakistani channels are not shown in india. Pakistani music channels show signers from both countries.

This guy is a loser, y blame the directors, when the public have lost taste in your singing, they don't want to listen to you, so you should blame the public.

Music industries are suppose to work like this, going to other countries to perform. Look at Britian, USA and America, their singers go to other countries to perform. Its better for Pakistani singers to go to india and perform, rather have their music stolen.

Also pakistani singers are invited to india to sing for movies and perform for their talent, the fans want them and theirs nothing wrong in it.

Totally agree with you man its just public stunt nothing else.. Pakistani artists come to India before and will come to India for years to come.because arts and music has no boundary ..

I agree with Abhijeet, one way traffic makes no sense. How many Pakistani artiste have stood up against their administration and said that Indian artistes should be welcome in their country too?

besides Pakistani artistes need us, our industry. We can do without them, its not our problem that their creativity can’t be optimized in their own country.

Im not sure if this is right, could you post an official source where it says indian artist are banned.

I don't think they are banned, Indian artists come to pakistan to perform, Sonu nigam was here, and a few more.

There were incidents that Indian artists denied of getting VISA...but i dont think they were banned

if ever there is a banning happened it will be from some organisations ..I don't care about that because in India there are also people who try to sabotage Pakistani artists performance..Those people are just nuts who don't know nothing about arts and culture ..

i personally really like pakistani bands.
Namely ep , noori , call. junoon is a bit emo but still , not bad.

No bands in india really can compete with them. Of course there are bands like oceans , motherjane, decibals , parikrama, reverse polarity which are pretty awesome but all of them sing in english.
We desperately need some good hindi rock bands

Abijit is saying nonsense. All Pakistani who have capabilities for singing,acting,sports(cricket etc..) should be allowed to be in INDIA(except Pakistanis with terrorist capabilities like Kasab). They should be given all help to produce the best in INDIA. I consider it as a matter of pride for INDIA. If Pakistani singers are better than India's we should accept them. And of course Pakistani actors are more beautiful than INDIAN ones...We should not sacrifice individual abilities in the name of national enmity.

He is right the country banning is wrong. India singers were banned in Pakistan for years can someone let me known when was the ban lifted?

He is very well with in right to ask for similar permission he is demanding in his own country.

Two wrongs does not make it right. Even if Pakistan bans Indian singers.. Indians should allow Pakistani singers to perform in India.

Lol don't know anything about bands and artist in pak but i heard that people over there don't respect music much and most of the song they sing are stolen but idk

of the above mentioned singer i have only heard of nusrat from a friened of mine but thats all ;D.

Dude we are talking about songs not movies. Some bollywood directors copy your movies. But songs. They are pure on both indian and Pakistani side.

Every person, here does not miss a chance to bash each other.
The article is about abhijeet not jana.

As far as ban's are concerned both sides have put these bans on each other. India will be hurting it self by puting bans on pakistani singers.

My dear friend Pakistani singers are always welcome and are already in India.

My point was no need to single out Abhijeet he has right for his views which he is expressing that too in his own country and he is not alone. He only expects similar treatment to Indian artiste.

Leave aside rahat fateh khan...He is a talented sufi singer but seriously Atif Aslam??His voice is worse than a bus conductor...No voice modulation.No Sur nothing....

you are right ... atif aslam is not that good singer..... today's technology... any one can sing.....
