The real power is with Chinese PM Lee Hsien Loong.

The Indian guy is just a slave.

Indian slave will always be a slave.

No need to be hype, previous Presiden is Malay. There will be rotation for President to improve nation unity but real power is in the hand of PM as Singapore is not using Presidential system. President position is just symbolic and the position is powerless.

It is the Party who select their President candidate and the winning is not a surprise as the same party who previously choose Malay women (Halimah) as their President candidate also won.

PM is still in the hand of Chinese, including the next PM ( current finance minister)

.
But it is a bit surprising that a Malay is in neither position.

Not true.

Duh not surprising at all.

The reason is the same like happening in US. Indians who migrate to Singapore comes from educated background. While Indians who work in blue color jobs in Singapore cannot/ hard to get the citizenship, the same system applied in Saudi where blue color migrant worker also cannot/hard to get citizenship.

Chinese ethnic around SEA and EA also migrate to Singapore, they are also from educated folks group. Usually those who can afford to study in expensive Singaporean universities and those who get to Singapore from white color jobs.

Malay group in Singapore are different. Educated Malay/Austronesian group in Indonesia/Malaysia/Brunei dont have any interest to migrate to Singapore.

I don't think Saudi's care about the color of your collar. They rarely allow citizenship, only to ethnic Arabs and Muslims. Rest of them are barely humans, who can come and work.

Chinese majority countries/regions are rich. Indians majority countries/regions are poor.

President position is just symbolic and the position is powerless.

The President isn't exactly powerless. He holds the 2nd key to Singapore's reserves.

The President used to be appointed by the cabinet as the head of state, a largely ceremonial role. However before Lee Kuan Yew stepped down, he was worried that the electorate will vote in a spendthrift government and spend all the fiscal reserves the previous generations worked so hard to accumulate. The reserves are the only fallback for a small country with no natural resources.

To prevent such a situation, he came up with a 'two-key' mechanism. One key held by the government, another key held by the President. To unlock the reserves, you need the consent of the President. And for the President to be an effective custodian of the reserves, he/she needs to be separately elected by the people and not appointed by the government. So the opposition can't just say, "Vote us in and we will lower taxes and increase welfare spending". They have to balance the budget.

So far, the reserves have only been unlocked twice in times of crisis: the 2008 Global Financial Crisis and Covid crisis.
