Indian-origin pilot marries Chinese colleague

2010-08-15 14:00:00
Two fighter pilots - one of Indian origin and the other of Chinese origin - of the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) have got married in one of the military's first inter-racial weddings.

Captain S. Thayala Kumar Ravi Varman, an ethnic Indian, married Major Patricia Yapp Syau Yin, a Chinese Christian, senior to him professionally and in age.

Patricia, 34, is an operational and tactical lead pilot with the Smokey Bandits Squadron, while Thayala Kumar, 32, is an instructor who trains weapons sensor officers, the New Straits Times reported Sunday.

After tying the knot in a traditional Hindu ceremony at the Sri Raja Rajeswary temple in Ampang, they proceeded for Christian ceremony at the Church of Our Lady Of Guadalupe in Puchong.

Guests included RMAF Operations Commander Lt. Gen. Datuk Bashir Abu Bakar. Thayala Kumar's parents K. Selvakumaran and A. Selvejothy, and Patricia's parents Yapp Chew Poh and Heng Hong Meng were present.

The two have known each other for 13 years.

Patricia is temporarily 'grounded' from flying duties as she is expecting 'and no, she does not pull rank on her hubby despite being his superior officer', the newspaper said.

According to government statistics, Singapore's population was 4.68 million, 2.4% of whom were multi-ethnic, mostly Chindians. Also in 2007, 16.4% of all marriages in Singapore were inter-ethnic, again mostly between Chinese and Indians.

I live in NYC, I know about interracial marriages/dating probably more then most on this forum............

Good for you!
We'll give you a medal.

The parochial arrogance of people in the urine-soaked, r@t-infested cesspool that is NYC never ceases to amaze me. The world is a lot bigger than NYC. I have lived in NYC and I know all about the various ethnic ghettos. You have the Russian and East European areas in Brooklyn, the Latino and Indian quarters in Queens, and the Black and Puerto Rican areas in Bronx and Harlem. NYC is actually a very segregated city.

Try going to Brazil for a start to understand the meaning of a fully multi-racial society.

I still dont think Brazil matchs to the city even though they are very much multi racial too.

Give me the medal.

And you compared a whole nation to a small state.

.
Inter racial marriages are so common everywhere and I must say Chinese women are really beautiful.

Then you most certainly need to get out of NYC and travel the world.

I know of the Japanese, Africans, Lebanese, etc, etc, etc in Brazil. I still dont think its concentrated like New York City. You can just about find every single group of people in NYC. And your compare a whole nation to a city/state.

NYC has Russians, Polish, Italians, Irish, Indian, Pakistanis, Guyanese, Trinis, Dominicans, Puerto Rican, Jamaican, Chinese, Koreans, etc, etc, etc. I can go on and on and on. Just about every religion to. Have you seriously been to New York City? I dont think any city in Brazil can match that.
