Indian naval aerial arm will stretch Pakistani air force | idrw.org

Addition of Mig-29k in Indian naval arsenal has not only boosted Aviation arm of IN, but also has given serious headache to Pakistani navy and will stretch Pakistani air force in possible future conflicts.

NATO described Mig-29k one of the best Naval fighter aircraft in the Asian region, It has been vindicated when Russian Navy decided to purchase them to replace their also Su 33 carrier fleet, with Indian navy already has shown interest in the delayed Lca Program and are already developing Naval variant of it, if Indian media reports are to be believed Navy to will take some aircrafts from Famous MMRCA competition, where French Rafale and European Euro fighter are in the race.

IN with addition of Naval Lca and MMRCA aircraft will be force to reckon with in the region, while Pakistani navy on the other hand, other than traditional aircraft for Naval and anit submarine purpose is missing fighter aircrafts in its arsenal.

Pakistani air force always been Hero for Pakistani military, but time again it has been accused for fighting its own war , classic examples can be lack of air support for Army tank regiment in Battle of Longewala, or attack on Karachi port and Naval ships , where PAF did not even attempted to intervene and fought its own war .

Pakistani navy has to come out of Protection of PAF and induct its own aircraft in its arsenal , with JF-17 home grown production in full swing , Two or Three squadrons of Naval Variant of JF-17 should be developed and inducted in to Pakistani navy.

Fighter aircraft’s are required , not only to protect coast of Pakistan, but also assets of Pakistani navy ,such has ships and land based installation , we cannot just afford repeat of 1971 bombing of our harbors .

. .
JF-17 can be use by aircraft carrier?
no not in its current form
but we do not have a AC so there is no need to make it AC capable but a navel varient is an aircraft that is built to resist the sea that is carry naval weapons + resist rust and wear and tear of salt.

.
i think this was to be expected by the PAF . after all they sure did not think the IN was just buying them for fun. its only in 2015 when all three of our carrier groups are operational will they face a headache of mammoth proportions.

Thats only partly what a Naval aircraft is. A Naval aircraft is modified to endure the stress on the under carriage related to landing on an aircraft carrier and due to the arresting hooks.
As you mentioned, this won't be a major task since PN doesnot have an aircraft carrier. What would be interesting is to know what is the strike/intercept capabilities of a JF-17 while carrying external fuel tanks. Given the advantage of reach that the Mig 29k or any other AC operated aircraft would have over land based ones, such capabilities of any fighter aircraft that the PN wishes to acquire would be tested.

If possible i would like to have Mastan Sir's take on this ....?

What role does India have in mind for the naval fighters, is it only for fleet defence and other naval duties, or are they also tasked with offensively engaging other air forces? If we are talking about pakistan, would the mig 29Ks be expected to attack engage the PAF from a different front, or are those tasks going to be left solely to the IAF? Does India really need its naval aviation wing to do it?

There has not been any open declaration of intent of use. But a brief look at history would shed light on how the IN uses aircraft based fighter aircraft.
(Hint: No it is not for fleet defence)

.
We should have a big naval air force fleet to complement the IAF/....
So they fight without tension and can concentrate in land defensive and offensive ops..
Naval fighters must protect ships in high seas and also harbours....

No need of AC capabilty because pakistan don't have any aircraft carrier and made for pakistan neccesity and conditon,as a result PLAAF(99.99% contributer) reject it ? is that is your point than why pakistan want to sell JF-17 to other country which is only made for pakistan?(desert present in china too)

It cant be ruled out... PN will be force to raise a few sqds of JF-17s,J-11Bs or FC-20s....

No, the IN naval fighters are defeintly not just for fleet air defence. The IN specifically asked for accurate ground attack capability, the Mig-29K is a true Multi role fighter able to engage a plethora of opponents in the air, land or sea and operate far away from ACC and go on the offensive. The IN didn't buy "buddy refilling" pods for Mig-29Ks for nothing.

of course jf is not a dedicated Navel ac but remember it is a multi role single engin also long range fighters are somthing we canot affford yes it is a drawback but its the reality and becides F16 will also be there . in future J10b might get a navel role but these ac will always remain defencive fighters. to counter the Mig threat we can look in to t 504 freget system remember the HQ 9 SAM system is a big threat with the AESA CC system. another method is in a senario of war to take out the AircraftC it self with a SEAD and Strike force keep in mind in traning excercises we have defeater USS Gorge bush defences with Mirage Ac and also keep in mind a whole SEAD EW ECCM traning system has been set up to train pilots against combination of SAM AA that u guys have on ground and also on ur ships.
